Last Time Out: Emma Baumbusch knocked in a corner kick 1:24 into the second half to give the Monarchs a much needed three points in a 1-0 victory over Delaware Valley on Senior Day at McCarthy Stadium. King's dominated possession outshooting the Aggies 22-3.
Jess Schenfeld picked up the shutout in goal making one save.
Keystone also won on their Senior Day picking up a 2-1 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday. Nisa Cortes and Jordyn Olsen scored for the Giants. Rebekah Shepherd made one save in net.
The Book On The Monarchs (6-8-0, 3-3-0 MAC Freedom):
- King's took a big step towards qualifying for the MAC Freedom Tournament for the first time since 2015 on Saturday with the victory over Delaware Valley. The Monarchs moved up from sixth to fourth in the conference standings and now just needs a win or draw at Eastern in the regular season finale to lock up the final tournament berth.
- The Monarchs are 5-0 all-time against the Giants but have not squared off on the pitch since 2009. King's has recorded three shutouts in the series winning the last two meetings in 2006 and 2009 by scores of 8-0 and 4-0.
- Three sophomores have been strong on the offensive side for Monarchs this year. Emma Baumbusch scored the game-winning goal against the Aggies on Saturday and has recorded two assists. Emily Harrington has scored two goals, including the game-winner against FDU-Florham, and has an assist. Stephanie Corea has added two assists in the midfield.
- Junior Jess Schenfeld recorded another shutout victory in goal on Saturday. In five appearances this season she has recorded a 2-1 record with a 0.49 goals against average and a .867 save percentage in 364:32 minutes of work.
- Freshman defender Kara Keim leads the Monarchs with three goals. All three of her goals have been excellent rockets from distance. Keim scored her first two goals in a week span to be named the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week on September 24th.
- Junior Danielle Putnam leads the team in points with seven on two goals and three assists. Both of her goals were game-winning goals.
- Tara Bender has seen most of the action in net this season and was named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week a few weeks ago. She has recorded a 2.03 goals against average and a .731 save percentage. The freshman is 4-7 in 929:05 minutes of action while her 5.18 saves per match is fourth in the conference.
The Book On The Giants (4-11-1, 4-2-1 CSAC):
- Keystone was picked to finish second in the CSAC Preseason Poll and has gone 4-2-1 in conference play to qualify for the CSAC Tournament. The Giants defeated Notre Dame of Maryland 2-1 on Saturday.
- KC is 2-6-1 on the road this season and are looking for their first non-conference point of the season.
- Samantha Patterson is in her first season of leading the Giants. Patterson played collegiately at Lackawanna College before earning her degree at Penn State where she was a member of the rugby team. Patterson played semi-professionally for the Binghamton entry in the Women's Professional Soccer League (WPSL) in 2013 and 2014 and is currently a member of the New York Magic pro-am team.
- The Giants have conceded 55 goals this season, the most in the CSAC. KC has gotten off to slow starts being outscored 28-7 in the first half of matches.
- Senior Nisa Cortes leads the squad and is eighth in the conference with eight goals scored. The forward has also recorded three assists.
- Junior Hayden Richner has recorded 19 points on six goals and seven assists. The midfielder has the second-most assists in the CSAC.
- Sophomore Faith Shiffer has scored two goals and added six assists in the midfield.
- Junior keeper Rebekah Shepherd leads the conference in minutes played and save. She has made 167 saves in 1433:53 minutes of work while recording a 3.14 GAA and a .770 save percentage.
Up Next: The Monarchs will look to clinch a MAC Freedom Tournament berth on Saturday when they travel down to St. Davids to take on the host Eastern Eagles at 12 p.m. on Olson Field in the regular season finale.
