WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 9, 2018) – The King's College women's soccer team will look pick up some important conference points on Wednesday night when they host Wilkes University at 7 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium

Last Time Out: King's fell to nationally-ranked Misericordia on Saturday in Dallas. The Cougars scored twice in the first five minutes of the match to set the tone for a 6-0 victory.
 
The Book On The Monarchs (4-6-0, 1-1-0 MAC Freedom):
  • The Monarchs have played the second hardest schedule in the MAC Freedom and their opponent winning percentage of .626 is ranked 43rd in the nation. The schedule gets a little easier the rest of the way as their future opponent winning percentage is just .356.
  • King's is looking to win their first two conference home matches for the first time since the 1996 season. The Monarchs are also looking to score important points in the conference race. KC currently sits tied for fourth with three points.
  • Junior Danielle Putnam is leading the Monarchs in scoring this year with six points on two goals and two assists. Both of her goals were game-winning goals which is the second-most in the MAC Freedom.
  • Three sophomores have put in work for King's this season to record points on the offensive end. Emily Harrington has scored two goals, including the game-winner against FDU-Florham, and has an assist. Emma Baumbusch and Stephanie Corea are tied for fourth in the conference with two assists each.
  • Freshman defender Kara Keim and junior forward Sophia Sacknievich have provided offensive sparks with two goals each this season. Sacknievich scored both of her goals in the first two matches of the year while Keim scored both of her goals in a week-span to be named the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week on September 24th.
  • The Monarchs have done a great job at producing corner kicks this year as KC is third in the conference with 4.50 per match and have taken 45 total kicks. The Monarchs have allowed their opponents to take just 37 corners kicks. King's has been the best in the MAC Freedom this year in not committing offsides with just four.
  • Tara Bender has emerged as King's top keeper this season and was named the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week two weeks ago after shutting down the high-scoring offense of FDU-Florham with a career-high nine saves. Overall, she has a 2.04 goals against average and a .721 save percentage. The freshman has recorded a 4-5 record in 749:05 minutes of action. Her 4.89 saves per match is fourth in the conference.
The Book On The Colonels (5-4-1, 2-0-0 MAC Freedom):
  • Wilkes enters Wednesday night's conference match on a three-match winning streak following a 2-1 victory over DeSales on Saturday. The Colonels picked up back-to-back 1-0 victories over Delaware Valley and Kean prior to defeating the Bulldogs.
  • The Colonels are 1-3-1 this year when playing away from Schmidt Stadium and will be playing their first road match in two weeks on Wednesday. This is also their first conference road match of the year.
  • WU has one common opponent with the Monarchs so far this year. The Colonels dropped a 1-0 decision to Susquehanna on September 19th at Schmidt Stadium. Wilkes has played the third toughest schedule in the conference so far and are 82nd nationally with a opponent winning percentage of .589.
  • 2008 King's College alum John McNichol is in his first season leading the Wilkes program after spending four years as the head coach at Penn College. The former two-sport star for the Monarchs began his coaching career as KC's top men's assistant for six years.
  • Wilkes is being outscored 12-11 this year but are outshooting teams 61-48. The Colonels have gotten off to slow starts in matches being outscored 8-5 and out-shot 52-43 in the first half. In the second half of matches they are much better outscoring teams 6-4 and outshooting them 77-39. They are third in the MAC Freedom with 12 goals conceded this year.
  • Senior Nicolette Towlen leads the team with three goals on 21 shots. She scored twice in a 3-2 victory over Marywood earlier this season and the Colonels' first goal on Saturday.
  • Freshman Emily Bidelspach has recorded five points on two goals and one assist while juniors Allison Peet and Jessica Egan have scored two goals each. Egan was named the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against DeSales on Saturday. All four of Egan's and Peet's goals have been game-winners.
  • Senior Courtney Stanley and junior Samantha Cecere have split time in goal this year. Cecere has a 2-2-1 record in six appearances with a 0.91 GAA and a .833 save percentage. Her GAA is third in the conference while her save percentage is second. Stanley got the start against DeSales on Saturday and has gone 3-2 in 426:06 minutes of action. She has recorded a 1.48 GAA and a .588 save percentage.
  • Wilkes holds a 18-5-4 lead in the all-time series including wins in the past two meetings. The past seven meetings have either been decided by one goal or ended in a draw. The Monarchs last defeated the Colonels in 2014 at McCarthy Stadium.
