KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS DROP 9-7 DECISION TO VIRGINIA WESLEYAN ON FIRST LEG OF SPRING BREAK TRIP

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- The host Virginia Wesleyan women's lacrosse team broke open a 4-4 tie by scoring five of the game's final eight goals to post a 9-7 victory over visiting King's College Sunday in Virginia Beach, Va.

With the win Virginia Wesleyan improved to 2-1 this season while King's slipped to 2-2 in dropping the first of their three-game spring break trip.

King's fell behind 4-0 in the first half but countered with four straight of their own when Caitlin Butchko, Kaitlyn Campbell, Amanda Carroll, and Emma Lehman all scored for the Lady Monarchs.  

But Virginia Wesleyan responded with its second four-goal run of the game to build a 8-4 advantage with 29:26 left in the contest. King's outscored the host team 3-1 on a pair of goals by Anastasia Araviakis and a second from Carroll to trim the lead to 9-7 with 7:08 to play. But the Lady Monarchs were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the way.

Wesleyan outshot King's 26-19 while each team had 23 ground balls.

King's will now travel to Greensboro, NC for its final two games. The Lady Monarchs will face New Jersey rival Drew University Wednesday at 12:00 noon at Guilford College. King's will then play Guilford Friday at 3:00 PM before returning home.
