LADY MONARCHS DROP 14-10 DECISION TO DREW IN MIDDLE GAME OF SOUTHERN TRIP

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The King's College women's lacrosse team were outscored 8-4 in the second half by Drew University in a 14-10 loss to the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon at the Armfield Athletic Center on the campus of Guilford College in Greensboro.

The Lady Monarchs see their record fall to 2-3 while Drew improves to 3-2.

Drew opened the scoring 1:33 into the game with Lauren Cassella converted a free position shot. The Monarchs responded with back-to-back unassisted goals from Anastasia Araviakis and a goal by Amanda Carroll off an assist from Mary Kate Klodarska to take a 3-1 lead with 23:38 left on the clock. The Rangers countered with two unassisted goals to even the score before Araviakis converted a free position shot and Caitlin Butchko scored her fifth goal of the year to give the Monarchs a 5-3 lead. Cassella cut the lead in half with her second free position goal of the game with 7:26 on clock. Araviakis converted her second free position shot of the game to push the Monarchs lead back up to two. Drew was able to even the score going into halftime with a goal at the 2:15 mark and another goal right before the time expired.

The teams traded free position goals to start the second half as Carroll and Araviakis scored for the Monarchs and Cassella added two more goals for the Rangers. Allie Didario gave the Rangers their first lead since the first goal of the game with a free position goal with 15:10 remaining. Sage Johnson pushed the lead to 10-8 with a goal 18 seconds later. Carroll cut the deficit in half with her third goal of the game for the Monarchs. Drew responded with three consecutive goals to take a 13-9 lead with five minutes left. Emma Lehman scored her sixth goal of the year to get King's within three goals with three minutes remaining but the Rangers were able to score 37 seconds later to set the final score.

Anastasia Araviakis led the Monarchs with five goals including three free-position goals and seven draw controls. She moved up to sixth in program history with 140 career goals and is one point away from becoming just the fifth person to record 200 points in a King's uniform. Amanda Carroll added three goals and two ground balls. Caitlin Butchko had a goal and an assist while Emma Lehman scored a goal and Mary Kate Klodarska added an assist. Orla Cottell made seven saves in goal.

Lauren Cassella led the Rangers with 6 goals, including five free-position goals, and two assists. Allie Didario had two goals and three assists while Mia Campanale and Sage Johnson added three goals each. Katiana Michalski picked up the win in goal while making six saves.

Drew outshot the Monarchs 29-21 and won 16 of 26 draws.

King's will be back at the Armfield Athletic Center on Friday afternoon when they take on Guilford at 3:00 p.m. to wrap up their spring break trip.
