FAST START LIFTS KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS TO 17-5 VICTORY OVER WILKES

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's lacrosse team flew out of the gates to quickly build a 9-1 lead after just 16:30 of play as the Lady Monarchs registered a 17-5 victory over visiting Wilkes University Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, King's improved to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in MAC Freedom Conference play. Wilkes, meanwhile, slipped to 3-8 and 0-2.

Kendra McCoy had three goals in the early outburst while Anastasia Araviakis and Emma Lehman had two each as the Lady Monarchs took a 13-2 advantage into the halftime break.

McCoy led King's with four goals and one assist while Araviakis and Amanda Carroll added three goals and two assists apiece. Lehman and Mary Kate Klodarska both chipped in with two goals and one assist. 

Araviakis moved into a tie for second-place all-time in career scoring at King's with 238 total points as well as tying the second-place mark with 70 assists.

In goal, Orla Cottell posted 11 saves and allowed the fewest goals to any King's opponent this season. Megan O'Brien was also outstanding on defense, posting seven ground balls, causing five turnovers, and winning five draws.

Kyra Boccio and Laura Singleton had one goal and one assist for Wilkes.  In goal, Sarah Carlino had seven saves while Melania Velasquez added three stops.

King's owned a 33-17 advantage in shots and a 21-15 lead in ground balls.

King's returns to the field Saturday with a 1:00 PM matchup at defending Freedom Conference champion FDU-Florham in Madison, NJ.
