LADY MONARCHS EVEN CONFERENCE RECORD WITH VICTORY OVER DELAWARE VALLEY

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- Anastasia Araviakis had five points on three goals with two assists and scored the game-winning goal with 5:17 left to give the King's College women's lacrosse team a 7-6 victory over visiting Delaware Valley University on Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.

The Monarchs improved to 5-9 overall and evened their conference record at 2-2 with the victory. Delaware Valley fell to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

King's got off to a fast start as Amanda Carroll scored her 100th career goal 4:46 into the game on a breakaway off a feed from Mary Kate Klodarska. She then added her 32nd goal of the season nearly four minutes later off a beautiful pass from Araviakis. Araviakis made it 3-0 three minutes later with her first goal of the game. Amanda McKeegan put the Aggies on the board and cut the Monarch lead to 3-1 at the 16:35 mark of the first half. Sarah Almony increased the Monarch lead to 5-1 with two goals in a 21 second-span with just over eight minutes left. An Araviakis goal was sandwiched between two Delaware Valley goals to give the Monarchs a 6-3 halftime lead.

The Aggies came out strong in the second half and scored three times in the first eight minutes to tie the game. Neither team was able to score over the next 17 minutes as each team's goalies made save after save to keep the game knotted at six. The Monarchs finally broke through with 5:17 left when Araviakis scored her 52nd goal of the season to give the Monarchs the lead. The Aggies were able to get a few shots on goal in the final five minutes by Orla Cottell continued her strong play to keep the ball out of the net and give King's an important conference victory.

Cottell finished the game with a career-high 19 saves. Amanda Carroll and Sarah Almony had two goals each while Mary Kate Klodarska added an assist. Anastasia Araviakis had six ground balls, five draw controls, and four caused turnovers along with her three goals and two assists. Kelly Piece was a force defensively for the Monarchs recording six ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Amanda McKeegan led the Aggies with three goals while Janee' Rhode had two and Kara Imes scored once. Taylor Teliszewski had three assists and Clair Gamache had two. Amanda Dietrich made 13 saves in goal.

Delaware Valley held a 9-7 advantage in draw controls and 33-27 shot advantage. The Monarchs picked up two more ground balls than the Aggies and committed one less turnover.

King's will be back in action on Saturday when they host DeSales University on Senior Day at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
