KING'S WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO WILKES

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's tennis team fell to MAC Freedom powerhouse and regionally-ranked Wilkes University 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre.

With the win Wilkes improved to 9-3 and 3-0 in conference play while King's slipped to 3-10 and 1-3.

The Monarchs gave the Colonels a tough fight at number one doubles as Emily Fernandez and Natalie Coffee fell 8-6 to Wilkes' top doubles team. King's fell by scores of 8-1 and 8-2 in the other two doubles matches.

In singles play, the Colonels won all six flights in straight sets. Coffee won the most games in any set for the Monarchs as she fell 6-4 against Erin Volutza in the first set at number three before dropping the second set 6-0. Fernandez dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Jordan Vasarkovy in a rematch of the MAC Individual Tournament final that Vasarkovy won 6-0, 6-1.

King's will host Delaware Valley University on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Kirby Park Tennis Courts in Wilkes-Barre.
