KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS REGISTER 8-5 VICTORY OVER DESALES ON SENIOR DAY
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College lacrosse team remained in the hunt for an MAC Freedom Conference Tournament berth as the Lady Monarchs posted an important 8-5 victory over visiting DeSales University Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's improved to 6-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play. DeSales, meanwhile, slipped to 4-9 and 1-4.
King's took a 4-0 halftime lead on the strength of two goals each from Anastasia Araviakis and Kendra McCoy.
In the second half Araviakis scored just 2:04 ito the frame to push the score to 5-0. After DeSales got on the board with 13:56 to play, McCoy tallied her third goal of the game just 0:27 later to push the Lady Monarch lead to 6-1.Â
DeSales would score again, but Amanda Carroll struck net for King's only 0:14 later to up the score to 7-2. DeSales would score its third goal with 10:42 to play, but Araviakis scored her fourth goal of the game at the 9:45 mark to extend the lead to 8-3.
DeSales added two goals the rest of the way to set the final score.
Araviakis finished with four goals and one assist to move into second-place all-time on King's career scoring list with 251 points. She also moved into a second-place tie with her 178th career goal. McCoy finished with three goals while Carroll chipped in with one goal and one assist. King's goalie Orla Cottell made 11 saves in the game.
The win enabled King's seniors Araviakis, Kendra, Sarah Almony, Megan O'Brien, and junior Carroll to secure a home win in their final home regular-season games.
King's returns to action Tuesday with a key 4:00 PM Mac Freedom matchup at Misericordia University.
