King's Women's Laxers Drop 13-12 OT Heartbreaker to Manhattanville in Freedom Opener

KING'S WOMEN DROP 13-12 OT HEARTBREAKER TO MAHATTANVILLE IN MAC FREEDOM OPENER

WILKES-BARRE -- Carly Weiss scored the game-wining goal just 0:54 into overtime as the visiting Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team posted a 13-12 victory over King's College in the MAC Freedom Conference opener for both teams Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, Manhattanville improved to 6-4 overall while King's slipped to 3-8.

The teams played to a 5-5 tie with 8:05 left in the first half on the strength of three goals by Kendra McCoy. But the Valiants  scored the final two goals to take a 7-5 lead into the halftime break.Manhattanville upped the lead to 9-6 with 23:47 to play in the second half, but King's countered with four straight goals, two coming from Amanda Carroll as well as a goal from Emma Lehman which gave the Lady Monarchs a 10-9 lead with 19:34 to play.

But Manhattanville countered with three straight goals to move ahead 12-10 with 5:07 on the clock. But Anastasia Araviakis scored twice in a 0:33 span to tie the game with 1:20 left, sending the game to extra time.

The Valiants caught a break when Araviakis received a yellow card early in overtime to give Manhattanville a man-advantage. The Valiants capitalized on another King's foul when Weiss converted a free-position shot into the winning goal.

Araviakis led King's with four goals and four assists while McCoy posted four goals and two assists to pace the Lady Monarch attack. Amanda Carroll added two goals and one assist from King's while Orla Cottell posted 13 saves.

King's returns to the field Wednesday with a 4:00 PM home matchup against Wilkes University at McCarthy Stadium.
