Monarch Women’s Basketball Game Notes – No. 24/20 Misericordia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 22, 2019) – No rest for the weary this week for the King's College women's basketball team, who will take on No. 24/20 Misericordia University in the second of three Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) this week. King's has won three straight games coming into Wednesday's match-up with its ranked local rival, defeating Delaware Valley University 70-45 Monday evening in Doylestown, PA.

Last Time Out:  The King's College women's basketball team held host Delaware Valley University scoreless over the last 8:44 of the contest, earning a 70-45 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) win in a game postponed from Saturday afternoon due to the winter weather.

The win was King's 10th of the season, and it was the third consecutive conference win to move to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in the MAC Freedom. For the first time this season though, it was the Monarch defense that spurred the win. King's held DelVal to just 28.4 shooting overall on the game, highlighted by its fourth-quarter effort that made the difference.

Carrying a nine-point lead going into the fourth quarter, King's surrendered just three points in the final 10 minutes. The Monarchs pressured the Aggies (8-9, 2-4 MAC Freedom) into 1-of-16 shooting in the final stanza, building its lead up to a game-high 25 points to pull away.
Junior Rebecca Prociak posted another double-double for King's, as she finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was her eighth of the season, which the 23-point effort was her third straight game with 20 or more. Prociak was 6-of-11 from the floor, while tying her season-high for free throw makes with 11 out of 14 attempts.

Senior Alexis Steeber was 6-of-10 on field goals on her way to 12 points in 31 minutes of action, and Rajza finished with 10 points as the only other double-figure scorer for King's. Junior Mackenzie Yori posted eight points while junior Kayla Dillinger made all three of her field goals as she registered a strong game of eight points and seven rebounds. Freshman Emily Kriston also posted six points, four boards and three assists in 15 minutes.


A Look At The Monarchs (10-7, 4-2 MAC Freedom):
  • The King's College defense has come to life lately, holding teams to 52.0 points per game over its last two contests.
  • The Monarchs are still undefeated when they get to the line, going 8-0 this year when making 17 or more free throws in a game.
  • King's is 8-1 this season when grabbing 40 or more rebounds in a game and haven't lost in seven contests that it has picked up 27 or more defensive caroms.
  • Junior Rebecca Prociak continues to shine for the Monarchs, posting 20 or more points in her last three games, averaging 24.3 points and 11 rebounds over her last three contests, all wins for KC.
  • Prociak enters Wednesday's game with 938 points for her King's career and is on pace to break the 1000-point plateau at Eastern University January 30.
  • Junior Mackenzie Yori is second on the team in points per game with 15.4, as she is currently fourth in the conference in made three-pointers with 33.
  • Yori has made two or more triples in each of her last three games and four of the last five outings.
  • Senior Alexis Steeber continues to plug along as one of the most consistent and steady players in the MAC Freedom, as she has six or more field goals in her last nine contests.
  • Steeber, Prociak and Yori are the highest scoring trio on the MAC this season, pouring in 47.6 points per game combined.
  • King's is coming off one of its best shooting nights of the season, making 47.9 percent from the field. That was the third-best shooting clip of the year, bested only by games against Gwynedd Mercy (.500, 30-60) and FDU-Florham (.484, 31-64).
  • The Monarchs have the 16th most difficult remaining schedule in Division III, as teams on the schedule going forward have a winning percentage of 65.1.
A Look At The Cougars (16-0, 5-0 MAC Freedom):
  • Misericordia has yet to lose in 2018-19, earning victories in each of its first 16 games, including earning a 74-64 road win at Eastern University last Wednesday evening. Misericordia is one of just five teams in the nation that is undefeated.
  • MU is outscoring opposition by 25.1 points per game this year thanks to a defense that's allowing a league-best 51.1 points per game
  • The Cougars defend the three-point line well, ranking fifth in NCAA Division III and first in the MAC Freedom in three-point defense, allowing teams to make just 22.1 percent from deep.
  • MU is strong on the glass, as its 15.6 rebounding margin ranks fourth in the country, while leading the MAC Freedom. Along with that, its 34 defensive rebounds per game is second-best in Division III.
  • The Cougars don't take a lot of three-pointers, only 255 this year which is fifth in the MAC Freedom. They are connecting on 30.2 percent from behind the arc.
  • Japriya Carroll paces a balanced Cougar attack with 14.7 points per game, making 43.0 percent from behind the arc which tops the MAC Freedom.
  • Rachel Carmody is 12th in the MAC Freedom in scoring with 14.1 points per game, ranking second in rebounding with 9.9 boards a game. Carmody is fifth in FG percentage at 50.3 percent in the league.
  • Tessa Zamolyi ranks third on the Cougars with 12.7 points per game, posting 6.4 boards a contest.
  • Paige Wampole also posts 6.2 points and 6.5 rebounds a night, and her 24 blocks is second in the conference.
Against Misericordia: Since 2008, King's holds a slight 12-10 edge over the Cougars, as the two teams split last year's series. King's is 8-3 since 2008 in its home building, defeating Misericordia 74-59 last year in McGrane Gymnasium.
