WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 13, 2019) – The King's College women's ice hockey team will close out the season with a home-and-home series against the Knights of Neumann University this weekend. The Monarchs will host NU on Friday evening before traveling down the Northeast Extension for a Saturday afternoon puck drop in Aston.

Last Time Out: The Monarchs played Lebanon Valley tough in a pair of losses. King's saw their third period rally fall just short in a 4-2 loss at Revolution before the Flying Dutchmen scored three first periods goals to win 4-0 in Hershey.
Morgan Almon and Josee Aitken scored goals for the Monarchs.
Neumann stayed alive in playoff contention with a 1-1 tie at Stevenson. The Knights fell to the Mustangs 3-1 in the first game of the weekend series. Steph Grundy scored with 1:34 left in the third period to salvage a point and keep NU's postseason hopes alive. Helen Cooney made 46 saves in net after making 40 in the first game of the series.
The Book On The Monarchs (1-21-1, 0-16-0 UCHC, 0-6-0 MAC):
- King's will wrap up their second season this weekend with a home-and-home series with the Knights. The Monarchs are 1-9-1 at Revolution Ice Centre this year scoring 10 of their 16 goals. KC will look to play spoiler this weekend as Neumann looks to qualify for the UCHC Tournament. A Monarch win or tie in either game will end the Knights season.
- Sophomores Josee Aitken and Caitlin Redden are ending their sophomore seasons strong with points in two of the past three game. Aitken has two goals and four assists this year including two goals and an assist in King's last two home games. Redden has recorded all three of her points this season, one goal and two assists, in the Monarchs last two games at Revolution.
- Sophomores Gracen Mahoney and Kellie Munro lead the team in points. Mahoney has seven points on four goals and three assists while Munro totals six points on two goals and four assists. Munro won 17 of 27 faceoffs last weekend against Lebanon Valley.
- Freshman Erin King has been very consistent for the Monarchs this year starting every game. She has blocked 30 shots on defense before being moved to the forward line as a center where she won 46 of 96 faceoffs in four games. King has three assists this year including two in the past two home games.
- Maggie Gould has scored four goals this year which ties Mahoney for the most on the team. The freshman has two power play goals this season while adding an assist.
- The Monarch defense has blocked 411 shots this season. Freshmen Meghan Mietlicki has blocked a team-leading 68 while Morgan Almond has 63 blocked shots. Almon scored her first career goal against the Dutchmen last Saturday. Sophomore Kelly Tuffy adds 48 blocks.
- Sophomores goalies Emma Zeveney and Kiva Sierra Stoltz have split time in net this season. Zeveney has recorded a 6.52 GAA and .869 save percentage making 512 saves. Stoltz has a 6.68 GAA and a .869 save percentage making 484 saves.
- One of King's biggest problems this season has been penalties which has turned into 29 power play goals by their opponents. The Monarchs are currently ranked 10th in the nation with 10.4 penalty minutes per game. The Monarchs have been successful on 83 of 112 penalty kills.
The Book On The Knights (6-16-1, 5-10-1 UCHC):
- Neumann enters the weekend needing two wins and two Stevenson losses to move into the sixth and final UCHC qualify spot. The Knights are currently seventh, three points behind the Mustangs. Stevenson finishes the regular season at Regular Season Champion Elmira who is a perfect 16-0-0 in conference play.
- The Knights won all three meetings with the Monarchs last year. After winning 5-0 in King's first-ever game, Neumann won 6-1 in Aston and 7-0 in Pittston.
- Senior Jackie Scheider has scored 17 goals and added five assists for 22 points this year. She has five power play goals and two game-winners. She is tied for 11th in Division III at 0.74 goals per game. Most of her points has come in conference play with 11 goals and three assists. Scheider has skated in all 23 games without recording a penalty.
- Katelyn Brown has also recorded 22 points this season on 10 goals and 12 assists. The sophomore has scored three power play goals and two game-winners in 21 games. She averages just over a point per game for her career.
- Junior goaltender Helen Cooney has a 2.94 GAA in net with a .936 save percentage. She has made 846 saves this year and recorded two shutouts.
- Seniors Jordyn Cholish and Steph Grundy have recorded double-digit points at 11 and 10. Cholish has four goals and seven assists while Grundy adds two goals and eight assists from the defensive line.
- Neumann is 30th in scoring offense at 2.13 goals per game. They are allowing 3.61 goals per game for a -1.48 scoring margin.
- The Knights have recorded 10.3 penalty minutes per game this season which is ranked 13th. They have killed off 88 of 109 power play chances for an 80.7 percentage. NU has a combined special teams percentage of 50.2 which is ranked 35th of 66 teams.
