Monarch Women’s Lacrosse Game Notes – Lebanon Valley

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 18, 2019) – The King's College women's lacrosse team heads back on the road after short homestand, traveling to Annville, PA on Tuesday evening for a night contest with the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College. Both teams are coming off victories this past week, as King's knocked off Penn State Abington 18-5, while LVC defeated Shenandoah University 14-8 Saturday.

Last Time Out: The King's College women's lacrosse team scored the game's first 11 goals and put things on cruise control from then on as the Monarchs topped visiting Penn State Abington 18-5 in non-conference play from McCarthy Stadium Wednesday evening.

The win snapped a four-game skid for the Monarchs, as King's (2-4) moved to 2-0 at home this season powered by a strong first-half effort. Freshman Jen O'Connor tallied eight points on the night on four goals and four assists to lead the way for King's, while five other players had two or more points in the win. O'Connor chalked up 12 draw controls, which tied for the third-most in program history, and posted four ground balls as well.

Sophomore Mary Kate Klodarska finished with four goals, needing just five shots on the night, and McCarthy tallied two goals, two assists, three ground balls and five draw controls. Lehman posted two scores and an assist, and Sims registered a goal, assist and four ground balls. Sophomore Chloe Rizzo played well for King's, scoring her first career goal in the second half.

Freshman Brianna Raucci also scored for King's, and Kelly Pierce chalked up two ground balls. King's was 3-for-6 on free position attempts on the night, outshooting their opponents 33-10. The Monarchs were also 11-of-12 on clears, while forcing six Nittany Lion turnovers on clear attempts. Sophomore Orla Cottell made three saves in the victory, which was her ninth as a Monarch.

A Look At The Monarchs (2-4, 0-0 MAC Freedom):
  • The Monarchs come into Tuesday evening's game with the league's seventh-best goal differential, allowing 4.5 more goals on average than they score.
  • King's has allowed a league-high 88 goals this season through six games, having posted 61 scores which ranks fourth in the conference.
  • KC is averaging 10.17 goals per game, which ranks seventh in the conference, while it's 5.00 assists per game is fourth-best in the MAC Freedom.
  • The Monarchs are doing a nice job of not turning the ball over, as King's is second in the conference in turnovers per game with just 19.33.
  • On the other side, KC isn't turnover over its opponents much with just 7.17 caused turnovers per game. That ranks seventh of eight teams in the MAC Freedom, ahead of Eastern (7.00).
  • Individually, King's had one player in the top 20 in the conference in goals per game, as freshman Jen O'Connor ranks 17th with 2.0 goals a contest. The freshman does pace the conference in assists per game with 2.33, while her 14 total helpers is three more than Katie Stordy of DeSales.
  • O'Connor is ninth in the conference in points per game with 4.33, while sophomore Mary Kate Klodarska is 17th in points per game with 2.83.
  • Sophomore Orla Cottell ranked seventh in the conference in goals against average at 14.67, as well as seventh in save percentage at .397.
  • Junior captain Kelly Pierce is 11th in caused turnovers per game in the MAC Freedom with 1.67, and is 10th in ground balls per game with 3.00.
  • Sophomore Kylie McCarthy has posted 12 points on eight goals and four assists this season, needing just 11 shots to score her eight goals. Her shooting percentage tops the MAC Freedom.
  • Freshmen Emily Sims and Natasha Koslop, both local products, have chalked up eight goals apiece, and sophomore Emma Lehman has seven scores.

A Look At The Dutchmen (2-4, 0-0 MAC Commonwealth):
  • The Dutchmen are fourth in the MAC Commonwealth in scoring margin, while ranking fifth in goals score and allowed this season.
  • LVC's victory on Saturday snapped a three-game losing skid, having fallen to No. 7 York 16-6 along with losses to Drew University and FDU-Florham.
  • Veronica Venezia ranks 12th in the MAC Commonwealth in goals per game with 3.00, while ranking sixth in assists and fifth in points. Her 31 points pace the Dutchmen.
  • Teammate Brittany Hathaway is right behind her with 24 points on 13 goals and 11 assists, adding 13 draw controls.
  • Makenzie Kelley has also tallied 16 goals for the Dutchmen, ranking second on the team in ground balls with 15.
  • Jen Eck has been a force in the circle, leading the team with 31 draw controls while adding 12 caused turnovers and 15 ground balls.
  • Julia Gabriel also has been strong defensively, posting seven draw controls and five caused turnovers.
  • Hannah Oliveras has started five games this season, playing most of the time in net with a save percentage of .426. She has made 43 saves on the year.
Against Leb Val All-Time: King's is still looking for its first-ever win against the Dutchmen, having gone 0-4 against the MAC foes. King's fell last year in Annville 18-13.

Up Next: King's will travel to Lycoming College Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. to take on the Warriors in non-conference play from Shangraw Athletic Complex in Williamsport, PA.
