Monarch Women's Lacrosse Game Notes - Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 2, 2019) – The King's College women's lacrosse team hopes to bounce back after falling to the Roadrunners of Ramapo last Saturday 15-9 in the 2019 Crosse Out Cancer Game, as well as to Marywood University last Sunday 17-7. They head to crosstown rival Wilkes University for a MAC Freedom contest Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m.

Last Time Out: King's College put up a great fight on Saturday, but six straight goals in the first half from the visiting Roadrunners of Ramapo College would end up dooming the Monarchs, gaining a six point lead they would never give up for the rest of the game. Ramapo would go on to win 15-9.

King's (3-8) went back and forth three times with Ramapo (6-2) over the first 14 minutes of the game. The Roadrunners struck first with a goal from Molly Warner. The Monarchs would follow that up about four minutes later with a goal from sophomore Emma Lehman.

Each team would trade goals twice thereafter. Nicole Jaskot of Ramapo would sink one through, quickly followed by freshman Jen O'Connor. The Roadrunners would score on an unassisted goal from Ava Rinaldi, and freshman Emily Sims would answer back on an unassisted goal of her own.

With the score at 3-3 and 14:58 remaining in the first half, Ramapo began their six-goal streak, starting with an unassisted goal from Shannon Eagan, and ending with Ava Rinaldi's 3rd goal of the game with 4:51 left in the first.
The Monarchs would tighten up their defense in the second half, but could not come back, never shortening the deficit to less than six.

O'Connor totaled another five points to add to her season total, with three goals and two assists. She also added 10 draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Junior Mia Dardanelli led the defense for the Monarchs, with four caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Lehman added two goals and an assist on offense, and picked up two ground balls. Sims also had two goals, and added a draw control. Sophomore Kylie McCarthy contributed with a goal and an assist, as well as five ground balls and a caused turnover. King's was barely outshot 28-26, and the Monarchs had 12 clears on 20 attempts.
 
A Look At The Monarchs (3-8, 0-0 MAC Freedom):
  • King's is ranked fourth in the MAC Freedom with 106 goals on the season. They are also third in the league in shot percentage, at 42.7%.
  • The Monarchs converted on 131 clears out of 204 clear attempts.
  • Freshman Jen O'Connor leads the Monarchs with 24 goals, putting her eighth in the conference, but is leading the conference with 20 assists.
  • Teammates Emma Lehman and Emily Sims are the teams' second and third top goal scorers with 17 and 16 goals, respectively. 
  • Mary Kate Klodarska is also a big part of the Monarch's attack being able to find the back of the net 14 times while creating 12 assists.
  • Goalkeeper Orla Cottell is fifth in the conference with an average of 8.91 saves per game.
  • King's is first in the conference with 138 draw controls.
 
 A Look At The Colonels (6-2, 0-0 MAC Freedom):
  • Wilkes is second in the conference for having a 32.25 average shots per game as well as average goals per game (13.38).
  • The Colonels converted on 109 out of 170 clears attempts.
  • Wilkes has scored four times on a woman-up scenario and three times when they were a woman-down.
  • Kyra Boccio is third in the conference for number of goals per game with an average of 4.00 a night; she leads the Colonels with 32 goals and 15 assists.
  • Boccio is a two-time MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week this season.
  • Last week junior goalkeeper Sarah Carlini earned MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week while teammate freshman midfielder Laura Bayzick earned it earlier thus season.
 
Against Wilkes All-Time: King's is 9-5 against Wilkes since the start of the 2004 season, winning three of the last four contests with the Colonels. King's is 5-1 against Wilkes all-time in Edwardsville, PA. 
 
Up Next: The Monarchs will return home Saturday, April 6 at 1:00pm for MAC Freedom matchup against FDU-Florham.
