Edoukou Sweeps Sprinting Events At NEPA Challenge

LA PLUME, PA (April 5, 2019) – Emmanuel Edoukou won the 100 meters and 200 meters to highlight a strong showing by the King's College men's outdoor track and field team on Friday afternoon at the NEPA Challenge hosted by Keystone College.

The Monarchs performed very well against a small field and in less-than-ideal conditions. King's finished third among five scoring teams with 91 points. Marywood University was first with 174 points while host Keystone was second with 168 points. Wilkes University was fourth with 41 points and Clarks Summit was fifth with six points.

On the Track
100 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou topped the field of nine to score 10 points in 11.43 seconds. The sophomore was able to beat Keystone's Yaw Acheampong who finished second in 11.85 seconds. Chibuikem Anyachebelu was fourth to score three points while equaling his career best time of 12.16 seconds. James Powell ran another career best time of 13.25 seconds to defeat Marchant Wiggins by nearly a second with a time of 14.23 seconds in the first of two heats. Powell was seventh overall with his time.  

200 Meter Dash
Emmanuel Edoukou won his second event of the afternoon with a time of 23.52 seconds in the second of two heats. The sophomore scored 10 points in the field of 11 by nearly a second. Alexander Hernandez of Keystone was second in 24.63 seconds. Chibuikem Anyachebelu was fifth to score two points in 25.55 seconds while winning the first of two heats. He won the heat by close to three seconds as James Powell was second in the heat and eighth overall with a time of 28.26 seconds.

400 Meter Dash
Kris Boxter finished second out of three runners to score eight points with a time of 57.10 seconds. The freshman beat Marywood's Noah Schock who crossed the line in 58.99 seconds but was unable to catch Cameren Brice of Keystone who had a time of 53.39 seconds.

1500 Meter Run
Mitchell Forgash was four seconds off the school record while finishing second out of seven to score eight points. The freshman ran an impressive 4:15.73 just missing the MAC qualifying time by a couple seconds. David Haines of Marywood won with a time of 4:12.52. The Monarchs had four of the seven runners in the field and scored 14 total points. Michael Duncklee finished fourth scoring three points in a career best 4:37.95. The senior ran seven seconds faster than his previous best from two years ago. Matt Schoch was a second off his career best time from last week to score two points in fifth place in 4:42.75. Steffen Hude scored one point in sixth place with a career best time of 4:48.54. That time is nine seconds faster than his previous best time.
 
Field Events
Pole Vault
Kevin Wrobleski gave the Monarchs 10 points as the freshman cleared 3.20 meters (10'6") as the only competitor in the field. Wrobleski needed two jumps to clear 3.05 meters (10'0) before needing three to hit his final mark. The freshman did not attempt any more jumps after clearing 3.20 meters because of the poor weather conditions.

Shot Put
King-Shakim Rose topped the field of seven to score 10 points with a career best throw of 13.34 meters (43'9.25") on his third throw of the day. Rose hit 13.30 meters (43'7.75") on his first throw and fouled on his second and fourth attempts. Keystone's John Chesson was second with a mark of 12.65 meters (41'6") on his second attempt.

Discus
Justin Le Cadre and Jackie Ni finished second and third out of six throwers to score 14 points. Le Cadre had a career best mark of 37.88 meters (124'3") on his first attempt to score eight points. The freshman hit 34.40 meters (112'10") on his second attempt before fouling on his final two. Ni scored six points with a mark of 35.52 meters (116'6") on his second toss. He had a mark of 35.05 meters (115'0") on his first toss and fouled on his third and fourth attempts. John Chesson of Keystone won with a toss of 43.12 meters (141'5") on his fourth and final throw.

Hammer
Justin Le Cadre finished third out of seventh to score six points with a MAC qualifying mark of 40.77 meters (133'9") on his fourth and final attempt. The freshman had marks of 37.97 meters (124'7"), 40.00 meters (131'2"), and 40.18 meters (131'10") on his firs three throws. King-Shakim Rose was fourth to score three points with a career best toss of 40.01 meters (131'3") on his first attempt. He fouled on his other three throws. Jackie Ni fouled on his first three throws before hitting 38.03 meters (124'9") on his final attempt to finish sixth and score a point. Marywood's Jake Kraycer won with a mark of 43.37 meters (142'3") on his first attempt while Keystone's Casey Montaro was second with a toss of 41.03 meters on his third attempt.

King's will be back in action next Saturday at the Messiah Invitational.
