WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 2, 2021) -- On Saturday, October 2, the King's College men's tennis team hosted the King's Fall Invitational at Kirby Park. After the first day of action, three individuals and one doubles pair advanced to the semifinals in their respective contests.
At No. 1 singles, junior
Logan Gregory earned a win in the opening round, defeating Nathan Tauber from Scranton, 6-3, 6-0. Then in the quarterfinals, Gregory fell to Joni Carasso from FDU-Florham, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, sophomore
Aidan Temple lost in the opening round in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to Penn College's Paul Lengnein.
In No. 4 singles action, first year
Cody Zheng earned a quarterfinal win over Jason Anderson from Lycoming, winning the opening set, 6-2, before dropping a 2-6 decision in the second set. Then in the final set, Zheng earned a solid 10-6 win to advance to tomorrow's semifinals.
First year
Jacob Nelson fell in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-2, to Luke Thatcher from Arcadia at No. 5 singles. Then in No. 6 singles, first year
Alex Nole defeated Scranton's Steven Prosperino in a thrilling two-set match 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the semifinals.
In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of Gregory and Lennon fell to Susquehanna, 8-4, in the quarterfinals. At No. 2 doubles, the Temple and Zheng pair dropped their opening round matchup to Penn College, 8-2. Finally at No. 3 doubles, Nelson and Nole defeated Arcadia, 8-7 (5-0) in the quarterfinals to advance to day two of the tournament.
The King's Fall Invitational will resume play tomorrow morning, Sunday, October 3, at 9:00 a.m. at Kirby Park.
