WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 21, 2021) -- The King's College football team will play its second-to-last home game in McCarthy Stadium this Saturday afternoon as they host the Devils of FDU-Florham in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play. King's improved to 3-3 for the season, 2-3 in the MAC, with a historic 51-12 win over Albright College last Saturday in Wilkes-Barre, PA. FDU dropped a 61-7 decision to #7/#9 Delaware Valley on their home turf in Madison, NJ.

The Coaches: Jeff Knarr is in his 12th season (11th with a season) with the Monarchs, as he is only the second coach of King's College football since 1991. Knarr took over for Rich Mannello, who was the head coach since football was reinstated at King's in 1993. Today is the 106th game that Knarr has been the head coach of the Monarchs. Jimmy Robertson is in his second season as the head coach of the Devils, first with a season, after serving as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for the previous four years. He has helped develop the FDU-Florham offense develop into a MAC juggernaut, ranking first in total offense in the MAC in 2019.

Looking at FDU-Florham: The FDU-Florham Devils currently rank fourth in the MAC standings at 3-1 against conference opponents. The Devils rank third in the MAC in scoring offense at 28.0 points per game with 21 touchdowns, while their passing offense and passing offensive efficiency numbers rank at the top of teh MAC with 260.3 passing yards per contest for an efficiency ranking of 139.0. Quarterback Anthony Caserta ranks second in the conference with 243.5 average yards a game with a conference-best 14 touchdowns. He's also completed 123 passes on 210 attempts for 1,461 yards. Receivers Connor Perez and Rory Sullivan also appear in the top-10 in the MAC in average receiving yards a game, as Perez tops of the MAC with 93.7 reception yards a contest on 34 receptions for 562 yards and 10 touchdowns. Sullivan adds 27 catches and 311 yards for an average of 51.8 yards per game. The Devils defense is led by Matthew Dougherty and his 50 total tackles, including 30 solo tackles, for 8.3 tackles per game. FDU also sees an average of 1.75 tackles for loss and 1.17 sacks per game from Kenny Hands.

Red on White: King's will be sporting their red jerseys and gold helmets as usual for their home uniforms, but will mix things up this weekend with white pants.

Single Digit Tough:  The Monarchs award single digits based on merit, leadership and are retained throughout their time at King's, and the squad recently named two more as Single Digit players. With those two including the players named in previous years and over the off-season, King's now has seven Single Digit Tough players: Gabe Boccella (2), Brendan Mozeleski (3), Charles McCall (4), Myles Shelton (5), Elijah Demosthene (6), Tommy Gilmore (7), and Tim Costantino (8). 

Captains This Weekend: The Monarchs will send out four captains for the coin flip this weekend, as Patrick Shire and Michael Santiago will represent the offensive unit while Teone Sherrod and Colin Hazelton will be the two representatives for the defense. 

A Look At The Monarchs: 
  • The Monarchs have their largest senior class in program history this year, which is to be expected with the NCAA waiver that is allowing all student-athletes another year of eligibility after last year's missed CoVID-19 season. 
  • King's currently has 20 seniors on the roster, and of those 20 players a total of 16 are listed on the team's two-deep including 11 starters. 
  • The Monarchs bring back five All-MAC performers from 2019, including All-MAC first-team defensive back Elijah Demosthene and Second Teamers Gabe Boccella, Charles McCall and Myles Shelton. 
  • King's comes into this year's season with a total of 11 coaches on staff, and of that group four are King's graduates (Ben Bakanas, Joe Damiano, Tyler Hartranft, Andrew Zub). 
  • King's was picked to finish sixth in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll, while Albright was selected to finish last.
  • King's is 3-1 at home this season, and they 2-1 when holding opponents between 10 and 20 points.
  • First year Brennan Robinson became the first Monarch to record over 200 rushing yards in a game since September 2012 as he ran for 230 yards, three touchdowns, and a successful two-point conversion on Saturday. He also added a 38-yard touchdown reception to earn MAC Offensive Player of the Week and D3football.com Team of the Week honors. Both are firsts for the Monarchs this season.
  • Junior kicker Kyle Prescavage went 3-for-4 on field goals from 17, 32, and 36 yards out and 2-for-3 on extra point attempts to earn his second MAC Special Teams Player of the Week nod.
  • First year Shemar Ellis also had an impressive performance as he ran for 103 yards while Tekoah Guedes ran for 80 total yards.
  • As a team, the Monarchs totaled 466 rushing yards, the most in a game in King's football history.
  • Colin Hazelton led the defense last weekend with 10 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a sack for a loss of eight yards. He also added two pass break ups and two quarterback hurries.
  • Teone Sherrod and Charles McCall each recorded interceptions in the win, with Sherrod returning the ball for 44 yards and McCall earning 25 yards on his return.
  • Additionally, Joseph Carchio forced a Lions fumble to round out the top defensive performances in the win.
  • The first year kicker pair of Delaney Hilferty and Alyssa Accordino made history on Saturday as the fifth and sixth women, respectively, to score in an NCAA football game. They also made their own history as the first pair to play and score in the same game in NCAA history.
Up Next: King's will head out for a two-game road stretch beginning next weekend as they make the short trip up the mountain to Dallas, PA to take on the Cougars of Misericordia University. It will be a 1 p.m. kick-off on October 30.
