The Coaches: Jeff Knarr is in his 12th season (11th with a season) with the Monarchs, as he is only the second coach of King's College football since 1991. Knarr took over for Rich Mannello, who was the head coach since football was reinstated at King's in 1993. Today is the 104th game that Knarr has been the head coach of the Monarchs. Ralph Clark is in his 4th year at Alvernia, posting a 3-17 record at the helm of the Golden Wolves. Clark has led the Golden Wolves in their first four years as an NCAA varsity program.

Looking at Alvernia: The Golden Wolves have started the season 0-4 overall, 0-2 in MAC play. Most recently, the Golden Wolves were just down the road last weekend, dropping a 23-0 contest at Wilkes University on Saturday, September 25. As a team, Alvernia ranks fourth in the MAC in rushing yards at 192.6 yards per game, largely due to the efforts of senior running back Malcolm Carey and his conference-leading 122.75 rushing yards per contest. The Golden Wolves passing game centers around quarterback Nick Rosahac with 31 completions on 54 attempts and 299 yards for two touchdowns. Top receivers for Alvernia include Neeko Scurlock, with a team-high 42.50 reception yards per game on 22 catches, and Joseph Perkins, who totaled 91 yards on six grabs for 22.75 reception yards per game. The Golden Wolves defense is led by Tyzhir Morris with 32 total tackles, including 14 solo tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Additionally, Alvernia Tajon Whiten leads the team with 3.5 tackles for loss, adding 25 total tackles and 0.5 sacks, while Luke Ammarell recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sacks.

Red on Gold: King's will be in red jerseys with gold pants and gold helmets for against Alvernia Saturday.

Single Digit Tough:  The Monarchs award single digits based on merit, leadership and are retained throughout their time at King's, and the squad recently named two more as Single Digit players. With those two including the players named in previous years and over the off-season, King's now has seven Single Digit Tough players: Gabe Boccella (2), Brendan Mozeleski (3), Charles McCall (4), Myles Shelton (5), Elijah Demosthene (6), Tommy Gilmore (7), and Tim Costantino (8).

Captains This Weekend: The Monarchs will send out four captains for the coin flip this weekend, as Gabe Boccella and Brandon Cohen will represent the offensive unit while Brendan Mozeleski and Dallas Solomon will be the two representatives for the defense.

A Look At The Monarchs:
  • The Monarchs have their largest senior class in program history this year, which is to be expected with the NCAA waiver that is allowing all student-athletes another year of elgibility after last year's missed CoVID-19 season.
  • King's currently has 22 seniors on the roster, and of those 22 players a total of 18 are listed on the team's two-deep including 13 starters.
  • The Monarchs bring back five All-MAC performers from 2019, including All-MAC first-team defensive back Elijah Demosthene and Second Teamers Gabe Boccella, Charles McCall and Myles Shelton.
  • King's comes into this year's season with a total of 11 coaches on staff, and of that group four are King's graduates (Ben Bakanas, Joe Damiano, Tyler Hartranft, Andrew Zub).
  • The Monarch defense ranks fourth in the MAC, holding teams to 315.0 yards per contest and recording five sacks. On the other side of the ball, King's comes in at fourth in passing offense at 223.3 yards per game.
  • King's special teams continue to get it done for the Monarchs, leading the MAC in kickoffs with an average NET of 41.5, with the punt team ranking fourth at 32.9 NET per punt.
  • Senior Brandon Cohen currently leads all tight ends in the MAC with 15 receptions for 107 yards at 5.0 receptions and 35.7 yards per game.
  • The receiving duo of Tim Costantino and Gabe Boccella rank in the top-10 in the MAC with 72.3 and 66.3 average yards a game, respectively.
  • Boccella also ranks third with 13.0 average yards per punt return and fifth overall in all-purpose yards with 120.3 per game.
  • Senior Brendan Mozeleski has been stellar so far this season to anchor the Monarchs defense, ranking fourth in the MAC in tackles with 9.3 per contest, fifth in tackles for loss with 1.50 per game, and sixth in sacks with .67 per game.
  • To complement Mozeleski are Joseph Carchio and Dylan White who also appear in the top-15 in the MAC in tackles per game, Myles Shelton and Jamil Thomas add top-15 numbers in tackles for loss, and Dallas Solomon and Thomas add top-ranked stats in sacks average.
  • Last week against Lebanon Valley, the Monarchs forced seven total three-and-outs defensively and look to continue the defensive pressure and intensity back on their home turf this weekend.
Up Next: King's will head out on the road for their first test against a ranked opponent, heading to #10 Delaware Valley University for a 1 p.m. kick-off in Doylestown, PA October 9.
