Wilkes-Barre, PA (February 24, 2022) – It's that time of the year! The King's College track & field teams will take the trip to Alvernia University once again, but this time it's much more important. Alvernia is playing host to the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) indoor track & field championships. 
 
A number of Monarchs have earned themselves extraordinary seeds as they have competed at a high caliber all season. The MAC is a strong conference from top to bottom, so all the Monarchs will have their work cut out for them this weekend.
 
The MAC championships will span two days, beginning at 2:00 PM Friday the 25^th and continuing at 11:00 AM on Saturday the 26^th. The full schedule of events can be found here.
 
On the Track
60 Meter Dash
Three Monarchs for the women's team qualified to compete this weekend. First year Abigail springer is just one spot shy of the podium. Springer comes in as the 9^th seed, boasting a time of 8.21 seconds that she ran at the Golden Wolves Rust Buster, which was also hosted by Alvernia. The newcomer to the team will look to shave down some time to reach the podium. Fellow first year Juliet Brady earns a top 20 seed. Brady also ran her best time at the Rust Buster, coming in with a time of 8.44 seconds. Junior Angelina Broga rounds out the Monarch runners. Broga ran her best time just a few short weeks ago, so she will look to continue shaving time off her best of 8.56 seconds. Broga earned a top 20 finish the last time she competed at the indoor MAC championships in 2020. The front runner in the event is Laura Mathews out of Stevens with a time of 7.81 seconds.
 
The Monarchs appear to have thrived at Alvernia as Alex Solano also ran his best time at the Rust Buster. The junior comes in as part of the top 15 for this event, entering with a time of 7.30 seconds. Solano earned a top 20 finish in 2020 at the indoor MAC championships. Brendan Avery will look to continue his trend of shaving time. The junior earned his best time of the season just last week at Susquehanna, finishing with a time of 7.39 seconds. Cameron Summers of Stevenson is the favorite as he enters with a time of 7.01 seconds.
 
200 Meter Dash
Abigail Springer will look to cap off her impressive debut indoor season this weekend. The first year ­lands just outside the top 10 in the event, entering with a time of 27.81 seconds. Springer earned her best yet at Cornell earlier this year. Just behind Springer is Angelina Broga. The junior is just 3 hundredths of a second behind her teammate as she enters with a time of 27.84 seconds. Broga left it all on the line last weekend to earn her new season best. Broga placed in the top 20 two years ago at the 2020 MAC championships. Juliet Brady also used last weekend to improve her time. The first year earns a top 25 spot with a time of 28.48 seconds. Elisabeth Schwarz of host Alvernia is slated as the top spot with a time of 26.40 seconds.
 
Brendan Avery will be the lone Monarch representing the men's team. Avery used last weekend as both a tune up and pump up as he crossed the line with a new best. The junior enters this weekend with a time of 23.88 seconds which earns him a top 20 seed. Owen Buhr of Lebanon Valley leads the pack with a time of 22.42 seconds.
 
400 Meter Dash
First year Laura Dainauski had an end of the regular season spurt as she earned her qualifying time just last weekend. Dainauski comes in as 1 of the top 20, entering with a time of 1:05.26. The first year looks to continue an impressive season and earn a spot near the top. Esther Seelan of Messiah earns the top spot with the only time sub 1 minute as she enters with a time of 59.56 seconds.
 
Andrew Novrocki is less than a second behind the leader. The first year has turned on the jets late this season. Novrocki enters with a time of 51.99 seconds, which he set last weekend. From his debut in the event to last weekend, the first year has shaved a full second off his time, and just in time to earn the 5^th place seed for this weekend. Widener's Samuel Knowles leads all runners with a time of 51.22 seconds.
 
800 Meter Dash
Nicole Zambetti will be the lone Monarch for both teams. The sophomore has had a fantastic inaugural indoor season after her first year season was cancelled due to the pandemic. Zambetti enters this weekend as a member of the top 15 with a time of 2:32.29 which she set earlier this year at the Susquehanna Invite. Esther Seeland sweeps the mid distance events as she earns the top spot in this one as well with a time of 2:06.84.
 
1 Mile Run
Senior Beth Albright will look to leave it all on the track in her last indoor championships. Albright ran her fastest mile of the season at the first meet this year, which was also hosted by Alvernia. Hopefully, she can channel the speed she had earlier this year to beat her top 10 qualifying time of 5:28.09. Esther Seeland continues her impressive slate as she takes the top spot in this event with the only sub 5 minute time of 4:52.25.
 
3000 Meter Run
Zoe Tomko is looking to jump the ranks and earn the top spot. The first year is just one position out of medal position as she takes up the 4^th place spot. Tomko currently holds the program record in this event, so she will look to smash that record and earn herself a medal. Tomko's time of 10:40.99 is just a little over 5 seconds behind the leader Carly Gable of Widener. Gable's time of 10:35.45 is the best so far.
 
5000 Meter Run
Zoe Tomko will look to medal in this event as well. The first year earns the 6^th place spot, entering this weekend with a time of 19:10.57. Tomko has not run this event since she earned her best time at the Susquehanna Multi and Invitational earlier this season. Tomko's other times had fallen incredibly, so expect the runner to shed some time this weekend. Widener's Grace Murphy earns the top seed with a time of 18:44.43.
 
60 Meter Hurdles
Both Monarchs in this event earned new best times just last weekend, and will look for their times to continue dropping this weekend. Victoria Zultevicz leads the Monarchs as she sits on the cusp of the top 10. The first year enters this weekend with a time of 10.33 seconds. Fellow first year Autumn Steibler earns a top 20 seed as well. Steibler earned her best time of 10.55 seconds just in time to qualify for this weekend's competition. Laura Mathews leads the event with a time of 8.88 seconds.
 
4x200 Meter Relay
The women's team comes in on the podium this weekend. Coming in with a time of 1:54.53, the women's squad earns the 7^th place seed. The Monarchs will have a host of runners to choose from for the top 4. The Monarchs enter junior Angelina Broga, sophomore Nicole Zambetti, and first years Laura Dainauski, Juliet Brady, Abigail Springer, Autumn Steibler, and Victoria Zultevicz. The women's team prvioulsy earned a 5^th place finish at the 2020 MAC indoor championships. Lebanon Valley's team earns the top seed with a time of 1:49.40.
 
The men's team also earns a podium seed. Coming in with a time of 1:38.62, the Monarchs earn an 8^th place seed. The men's team also enters a host of runners, having juniors Alex Solano, Brendan Avery, and Malkam Johnson, sophomore Andrew Sabo, and first year Andrew Novrocki to work with. The men's team placed 6^th in 2020, so this year's team will look to beat that finish. Lebanon Valley sweeps the event as their men's team claims the top seed with a time of 1:32.37.
 
4x400 Meter Relay
The women's team is just one position shy of the podium. Coming in as the 9^th seed, the women's team posts a best time of 4:26.58 set earlier this month. King's enters senior Beth Albright, junior Angelina Broga, sophomore Nicole Zambetti, and first years Autumn Steibler, Laura Dainauski, Liz Porto, and Juliet Brady. The squad will look to shed a few seconds to earn a spot on the podium. In 2020, the women's team placed 5^th at the MAC indoor championships. Stevens earns the top spot with a time of 4:12.21.
 
The men's team is only one position short of a medal. The men's team broke the program record earlier this season, posting a time of 3:35.73. King's enters junior Brendan Avery, sophomore Garret Tomasek, and first years Travis Lane, Andrew Novrocki, and Tyler Petty. The men's team placed 9^th in the 2020, so this team will look to post a better seed. Lebanon Valley takes the top spot with a time of 3:31.74.
 
4x800 Meter Relay
The women's team comes in in medal position. The women's squad claims the 3^rd position, posting a time of 10:40.63 earlier this season at Alvernia. The squad will be made up by a combination of seniors Beth Albright and Jen O'Connor, sophomore Nicole Zambetti, and first years Julia Johnson, Zoe Tomko, Mikaela Majcher, and Liz Porto. The squad will look to push the pace and hold onto the medal position. Messiah's squad holds the top spot, coming in with a time of 10:19.29.
 
The men's team will participate in this race for the first time this season. King's is 1 of 9 teams that comes in with no time. The men's team will field sophomore Garret Tomasek and first years Tyler Petty, Travis Lane, and Logan Taylor. Messiah sweeps the event as their men's squad comes in at the top spot with a time of 8:29.50.
 
Distance Medley Relay
The women's team comes in on the podium, securing the 6^th position with a time of 14:02.04. The women's squad earned their time at Susquehanna earlier this season but will look to catch the top seeded Widener. The squad will be made up by senior Beth Albright, sophomore Nicole Zambetti, and first years Laura Dainauski, Julia Johnson, Autumn Steibler, Mikaela Majcher, and Liz Porto. Widener's top seed comes at the hands of a time of 12:48.73.
 
The men's team will look to build on their position as they earn the 4^th place spot coming in. The men's squad ran a time of 11:35.74 earlier this season at Susquehanna to earn them the position. Sophomore Garret Tomasek will be joined by first years Tyler Petty, Andrew Novrocki, and Logan Taylor. The men's team will look to bump up the ranks to earn a medal position after finishing 8^th in 2020. Lebanon Valley claims the top seed with a time of 10:45.06.
 
In the Field
High Jump
Teone Sherrod will be the lone high jumper for the Monarchs. The junior earns himself a spot just short of a medal as he comes in with a season best mark of 1.89 meters. Sherrod will look to soar higher, as he has in the past, and move into medal position. Sherrod placed 2^nd in 2020, so expect the junior to fly high and move his way up the podium. Widener's Valiant McKee holds the 1^st position with a mark of 2.03 meters.
 
Long Jump
Teone Sherrod again finds himself on the podium, securing the 8^th place position entering this weekend. The junior recorded a mark of 6.45 meters earlier this year at Alvernia. Sherrod finished in the top 15 in 2020, so he will look to jump his way onto the podium this weekend. Andrew Novrocki is not far behind. The first year finds himself just outside the top 10, so he will look to push further for the higher position. Novrocki recorded a mark of 6.40 meters, also at Alvernia earlier this season. Xavier Phoenix of DeSales holds the top mark of 6.73 meters.
 
Triple Jump
Gabriella Conforti will be alone in the event. The junior earned her top mark of 10.48 meters just a few weekends ago to secure herself a 7^th place position. Conforti sprang into 4^th place in 2020, so she will look to fly past her opponents and move higher up the ranks. Alvernia's Shinelle Felix's mark of 11.34 meters leads the event.
 
Shot Put
Both the men's and women's teams place 2 on the podium. Adele Hollander leads the women's side, earning a 7^th place position behind her mark of 10.68 meters. The sophomore's mark came earlier this season at Alvernia, so she will look to continue her good fortunes at the Plex once again. Danielle Kitchner is right on her heels, entering in at the 8^th place position. The senior also threw her best mark at Alvernia, recording a mark of 10.55 meters. Kitchner finished in the top 15 in 2020, so she will look to take advantage of her final opportunity. Delaney Hilferty will round out the pack for the Monarchs, entering this weekend with a best mark of 9.56 meters. Widener's Anna Cooney holds the best mark this season of 12.99 meters.
 
Hold onto your hats people, Justin Le Cadre is in the lead! The senior comes in as the top rank this weekend. Le Cadre has broken the program record not once by twice this season already. His mark of 15.74 meters is over half a meter ahead of the next competitor. Le Cadre took 1^st in 2020, so he will look to repeat this weekend. Not to be left out, Carnell Kemp is expected to join Le Cadre on the podium. The first year has had a breakout debut season and will look to continue that this weekend. Kemp comes in as the 6^th seed with a mark of 14.56 meters.
 
Weight Throw
All 3 Monarchs on the women's team earn top 20 seeds this weekend. Sophomores Anna Bellucci and Adele Hollander both come in with a mark of 11.12 meters. Bellucci hit the mark just last weekend, so she will look to continue her trend of bumping up her mark. Hollander claimed her mark earlier this season at Cornell, but she looks to gain some distance as well as move up the ranks. First year Delaney Hilferty rounds out the pack for the Monarchs, coming in with a mark of 10.42 meters. Hilferty hit her best mark earlier this season at Cornell, but she looks to beat it this weekend. Brenna Karnish of Misericordia holds the conference leading mark of 16.51 meters.
 
Justin Le Cadre will look to go 2 for 2 in medals this weekend. The senior comes in as the 3^rd seed with a mark of 17.11 meters. Le Cadre broke the 17 meter mark earlier this season at Susquehanna and he expects to do so again this weekend. Le Cadre also took 3^rd in 2020 so he looks to move up the podium and claim a better medal. Carnell Kemp looks to bump up the leader board and out throw some heavy competition. The first year threw a season best 12.42 meters just last weekend, so he will look to improve yet again. Sophomore Jetli Tang joined Kemp in breaking personal bests last weekend as he threw 12.00 meters. Tang will look to make quick work of the competition and move his way up the ranks. Alex Kristeller sits atop the pack with a Division III leading mark of 19.54 meters. 
 
Multi
Heptathlon
First year Travis Lane will be the lone multi event participant this year for the Monarchs. Lane has continuously improved multiple facets of his game as he has crushed personal bests all season. The first year qualified in his first ever multi meet recording a score of 3074 points. Lane hopes to earn a few more this weekend to jump up the ranks as he comes in as the 8^th seed. The pack is led by Stevenson's Ritchie Case with a score of 4229 points.
