ANNVILLE, PA (March 1, 2023) -- With the conclusion of the conference tournament behind us, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) continued to release its post-season honors. On Wednesday morning, King's College women's basketball sophomore forward
Lauren Casey was named to the All-MAC Freedom women's basketball team as voted on by the conference coaches.
Despite battling injuries throughout the season, Casey led the Monarchs in scoring at 7.1 points per game, connecting for 42.4 percent form the floor, while also posting a team-best 5.3 rebounds per contest with nine blocks, 14 steals, and 12 assists. The Nanticoke, Pa. product ranked in the top 20 in scoring throughout the MAC Freedom conference schedule while finishing 12th in rebounding.
Casey also recorded a season-best 16 points with five rebounds in a tightly contested match up with Misericordia on February 1, while she posted a well-rounded effort of nine boards, five points, two blocks, a steal, and an assist over the holiday break in the Florida Sunshine Shootout against Husson. Her other balanced performance featured nine points, eight boards, three blocks, a steal, and an assist in a thrilling MAC Freedom win at Lycoming on January 11.
The sophomore joins a long list of Monarchs honored on the All-MAC Freedom team as this is the 27th consecutive active season that a women's basketball player was recognized in the All-MAC Freedom postseason awards.
Stevens collected three of the major awards as senior Jess Broad was named MAC Freedom Player of the Year, first-year Leyla Castro was named MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year, and head coach Megan Haughey was named MAC Freedom Coach of the Year. DeSales' senior Megan Bealer was named MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year. The complete 2022-23 All-MAC Freedom Women's Basketball Team can be found below:
