Men's Distance Medley Relay Sets New Program Record on Day One of Bison Multi and Open

LEWISBURG, PA (January 26, 2024) – On the opening day of Bucknell's Bison Open and Multi, the King's College indoor track and field team had a strong outing, with the men's distance medley relay setting a new program record and Brandy Varner smashing her previous personal best in the shot put to highlight the action.
 
On the Track
200 Meter Dash

James Holzschuh was the lone competitor in the event for the Monarchs as he crossed in a new personal-best time of 25.33 seconds.
 
Distance Medley Relay
The King's team of Owen Foytack, Tyler Petty, James Holzschuh, and Andrew Novrocki recorded a new indoor program record time of 10:59.96 in the event.
 
For the women, the relay squad of Julia Johnson, Ava Butcher, Liz Porto, and Zoe Tomko crossed in 14:05.04.
 
In the Field
Shot Put

Brandy Varner placed fifth overall, behind some Division I and Division II competitors, as she recorded a new personal-best mark of 12.54 meters on her fifth attempt. Delaney Hilferty posted a toss of 10.35 meters on her third throw, while Caitlin Kirk finished next in the event with a mark of 10.18 meters on her final toss. Sophia Lukowski rounded out the Monarch throwers in the event with a throw of 9.61 meters on her first attempt.
 
Multis
Heptathlon

Travis Lane currently sits in eighth with 2,272 points in the heptathlon. Lane began the meet strong, placing sixth in the 60 meter dash in 7.48 seconds, just one tick behind the fourth-place finishers. He then posted another top-10 finish, finishing seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.72 meters on his final attempt before posting a new personal-best 11.64 meter mark on his third toss in the shot put to take second. Lane rounded out the first-day's events as he cleared a height of 1.57 meters in the high jump.
 
Pentathlon
Victoria Zultevicz placed fifth overall in the heptathlon with 2,673 points. She began the event with a fourth-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.93 seconds before placing eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.34 meters. Zultevicz then recorded the fourth-best mark in the shot put at 9.01 meters on her first throw and followed up that performance with a second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.93 meters on her final attempt. She concluded the event with a time of 2:47.16 in the 800 meter dash.

King's will return to Lewisburg tomorrow morning to compete in day two of the Bison Open and Multi. Action is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Gerhard Fieldhouse.
