Miller Sets New Triple Jump Record to Lead Strong Showing at Misericordia Twilight Invitational

DALLAS, PA (April 5, 2024) -- Cody Miller set a new outdoor program record in the triple jump to highlight a strong start to the outdoor track and field season for the King's College men's track and field team. At the Misericordia Twilight Meet on Friday night, four Monarchs won their respective events, while 12 Monarchs recorded podium finishes.
 
On the Track
100 Meter Dash

Jordan Rife took second overall in the event as he finished in 11.55 seconds, while John Babinsky crossed in 13.18 seconds. Nolan Kozera of Marywood won the event in 11.19 seconds.
 
200 Meter Dash
John Babinsky was the lone Monarch in the event as he took third in his heat in 27.50 seconds. Richard Billings of Misericordia claimed the top spot in 22.20 seconds.
 
800 Meter Run
Eric Johnson finished sixth in his heat as he recorded a time of 2:17.31. Marywood's Raidan Francis topped the field in 2:01.03.
 
1,500 Meter Run
Eric Johnson claimed third in his heat, finishing in 4:43.33. Unattached athlete Alfredo Oidor won the event in 4:10.39.
 
In the Field
High Jump

Cody Miller made a splash in his collegiate debut, taking first as he cleared a height of 1.82 meters, while Patrick Bennie finished second with a mark of 1.72 meters.
 
Long Jump
Both Ameen Jabbar and James Holzschuh finished the event with both recording a personal best mark of 5.92 meters to tie for fifth overall. Misericordia's Matthieu Brunelle finished with the top mark of 7.00 meters.
 
Triple Jump
Cody Miller topped the field again, winning the event and shattering the program record with a jump of 12.76 meters. The previous mark of 12.51 meters was held by Sean Doherty from the Elizabethtown Early Bird Opener in March 2016. Patrick Bennie and James Holzschuh finished third with a mark of 11.97 meters and fourth with a mark of 11.94 meters, respectively.
 
Pole Vault
John Babinsky won the pole vault as he cleared a personal-best height of 2.50 meters.
 
Discus Throw
In the shortened event due to weather and darkness, Travis Lane was the top Monarch finisher as he placed fourth with a toss of 31.50 meters, while Jet Li Tang took fifth with a mark of 28.84 meters. Caldwell's Ervin Chaush had the top throw at 34.42 meters.
 
Hammer Throw
Carnell Kemp placed fourth overall with a mark of 40.71 meters, while Jet Li Tang was right behind in fifth with a toss of 38.75 meters. Jacob Martinez also finished in the top 10, claiming eighth with a throw of 31.61 meters. Stephen Gihr of Misericordia won the event with a mark of 48.09 meters.
 
Javelin Throw
Travis Lane finished fourth in the event as he recorded a mark of 45.04 meters. Caldwell's Andrew Scopel topped the field with a toss of 56.84 meters.
 
Shot Put
Jacob Martinez and Carnell Kemp took first and second, respectively, in the event, with Matinez recording the event-winning and personal-best mark of 12.82 meters and Kemp posting a mark of 12.78 meters. Jet Li Tang took ninth with a toss of 10.88 meters, while Josh Brown made his collegiate debut with a throw of 9.82 meters. Jev Brauer rounded out the King's throwers with a toss of 9.13 meters.

King's is set to wrap up their weekend tomorrow as they compete in day two of the Millersville Metrics in Millersville. Action is set to begin at 10:15 a.m.
