King's Track & Field Has Strong Showing at Widener Last Chance Qualifier

CHESTER, PA (May 13, 2024) – Each Monarch competitor finished in the top 15 in their respective events as the King's College track and field teams had a strong showing on Monday at Widener's Last Chance Qualifier.
 
On the Track
400 Meter Dash

Andrew Novrocki took a top 10 finish overall in the field of 33, placing sixth in 48.24 seconds. Gallaudet's Eric Gregory won the event in 46.30 seconds.
 
800 Meter Run
Owen Foytack finished in the top 15 out of 59 competitors, taking 14th as he crossed in a personal best time of 1:54.30. Kenton Bachmann of Empire Elite TC posted the top time in 1:48.83.
 
In the Field
Discus Throw

Brandy Varner took second overall in the field of 13 with a mark of 44.12 meters on her sixth and final toss. Delaney Hilferty finished sixth with a throw of 36.92 meters on her fifth attempt, while Katey Shoemaker was right behind with a toss of 35.69 meters on her first try. Christopher Newport's Katie Stevens was the top finisher with a mark of 48.86 meters.
 
Hammer Throw
Katey Shoemaker placed fourth out of the 17 throwers with a mark of 50.11 meters on her final attempt, while Delaney Hilferty took ninth with a personal best throw of 46.39 meters on her sixth toss. Widener's Isabel Rodriguez won the event with a toss of 53.83 meters.

Shot Put
Brandy Varner finished fifth overall out of 13 throwers with a toss of 12.10 meters on her second attempt. Widener's Kayla Robinson was the top finisher with a mark of 12.97 meters.

The Monarchs will await the final word on this year's qualifiers for the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet from May 23 to 25.
