Women's Hammer Dominates on Day One of MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

CHESTER, PA (May 2, 2024) -- Four podium finishes for the King's women's outdoor track and field team in the hammer throw propelled the Monarch women to a first-place ranking with 23 points to highlight action on day one of the 2024 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday. The men's team had a strong start behind their men's hammer and multis as well in Chester.
 
On the Track
4x800 Meter Relay

The women's relay team of Zoe Tomko, Julia Johnson, Liz Porto, and Mikaela Majcher ended the event just one spot off a podium finish in ninth with a time of 10:24.13. Misericordia's team won the event in 9:19.44.
 
In the Field
Hammer Throw

Carnell Kemp was the top finisher for the Monarch men, placing 16th with a mark of 41.04 meters. Jet Li Tang finished in the top 20, taking 19th with a throw of 37.83 meters, while Jacob Martinez rounded out the trio with a toss of 36.52 meters. Stevenson's Nathan Williams won the event with a mark of 61.29 meters.
 
The women dominated the event, claiming four of the eight podium spots. Katey Shoemaker finished with a silver medal with a mark of 47.30 meters, and Anna Bellucci earned bronze with a personal best toss of 46.50 meters. Delaney Hilferty claimed fourth with a throw of 45.68 meters, and Caitlin Kirk took fifth with a personal best mark of 45.08 meters. Brandy Varner made the finals and finished just one spot off the podium in ninth with a toss of 42.08 meters, and Rhian Crowley cracked the top 20 in 18th with a throw of 36.36 meters. Host Widener's Isabel Rodriguez won the event with a throw of 51.63 meters.
 
Multis
Decathlon

Travis Lane is currently in third place with 3,148 points after the first day of events. He started the day with a third-place finish in the 100 meter dash in 11.68 seconds before taking sixth in the long jump with a personal best mark of 5.93 meters. Lane finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 11.60 meters and in the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters. He rounded out the day with a fourth-place finish in the 400 meter dash in 52.31 seconds.
 
Heptathlon
Victoria Zultevicz finished the first day's events in first place with 2,466 points. She won the 100 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 15.60 seconds before taking third in the high jump as she cleared a height of 1.37 meters. Zultevicz won the final two events the day, including the shot put with a personal best toss of 9.80 meters and the 200 meter dash in a personal best time of 27.08 seconds.

The Monarchs will be back in action tomorrow morning as Day 2 of the 2024 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships is set to get underway at 9:00 a.m. at the George A. Hansell Track.
