Shoemaker Sets New Indoor Weight Throw Mark on Day Two of Widener's Winter Evening Invite

CHESTER, PA (January 25, 2025) -- Katey Shoemaker topped her own record in the weight throw to highlight action for the King's College indoor track and field team on day two of Widener's Winter Evening Invite.

Shot Put

Brandy Varner placed second overall out of 48 throwers with a personal best throw of 12.83 meters on her third attempt, while Delaney Hilferty finished sixth with a toss of 11.27 meters on her final try. Caitlin Kirk was next to place in 16th with a mark of 10.50 meters on her second toss, while Roni McClelland finished in 18th place with a personal best throw of 10.46 meters on her third attempt. Yassine Kamara of Bowie State won the event with a mark of 13.56 meters.
 
Gian Ovalles was the top King's finisher as he recorded a personal best throw of 12.32 meters on his third attempt, while Joseph Schneider posted a personal best mark of 11.01 meters on his second try. Daniel Mattey was next to place with a personal best toss of 10.99 meters on his third attempt, while Brady Rutkoski recorded a personal best mark of 10.97 meters on his final throw. Robbie Babson of Georgian Court was the top finisher with a mark of 16.27 meters.
 
Weight Throw
Katey Shoemaker won the weight throw with her new program-record mark of 15.76 meters on her final attempt, topping her previous mark of 15.58 meters from the 2024 MAC Indoor Championships. Brandy Varner took third with a personal best throw of 14.83 meters on her fifth toss, and Delaney Hilferty placed sixth with a personal best mark of 14.22 meters on her sixth try. Caitlin Kirk rounded out the King's throwers with her own top 10 finish, taking ninth with a toss of 13.74 meters on her second throw.
 
Carnell Kemp led a trio of Monarchs with a mark of 12.86 meters on his first attempt, while Joseph Schneider finished with a throw of 9.19 meters on his third toss. Brady Rutkoski posted a toss of 9.02 meters on his third try. Widener's Isaac Almoney won the event with a mark of 16.82 meters.

King's will be back in action next weekend as they're set to compete in Bucknell's Bison Open and Multi. Events will begin Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
