PITTSTON, PA (January 16, 2026) -- The King's College women's ice hockey team fell to Stevenson University by a score of 3-0 in their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) showdown, Friday afternoon at the Revolution Ice Centre. The Monarchs drop to 0-15-0 overall and 0-11-0 in the MAC, while Mustangs improve to 2-12-1 on the campaign with an 2-8-1 record in the MAC.
Â
King's was under pressure from the early stages of the first, as Stevenson controlled possession early and generated several quality looks in the first few minutes. Netminder Will McPherson settled the game with a series of early saves to keep the Monarchs level. King's responded with its first look shortly after, as Annie Sommer tested the goaltender off a developing rush.
Â
The opening period quickly became a defensive test for King's, with Stevenson sustaining long stretches in the offensive zone. McPherson turned aside chance after chance, while Victoria Fleury-Wright and Eva Goner stepped in to block shots, helping the Monarchs withstand extended segments of play in their own end. Despite a trio of Mustang power plays, King's penalty kill held firm, highlighted by a late sequence of eight saves from McPherson in the final minutes of a scoreless first frame.
Â
King's found its offensive rhythm early in the second, creating back-to-back chances from Riley Kumrow and Amanda Sokol that forced saves. The Monarchs continued to push at even strength and then on the power play midway through the period, firing a quick series of shots from Brenna Munn, Abby Barlocker, and Sammi Stead as momentum briefly swung in their favor.
Â
That momentum shifted at 10:20 of the second period when Stevenson capitalized on the power play to open the scoring. King's regrouped and continued to press, drawing their second man advantage of the period. On the ensuing power play, a short-handed goal at 17:02 extended the Mustangs' lead to 2–0 despite sustained Monarch pressure in the offensive zone late in the frame.
Â
Stevenson opened the third period aggressively, forcing McPherson to make several saves in rapid succession as the Mustangs looked to add to their lead. King's responded with increased puck possession, generating zone time and working the puck around the ice as the period progressed.
Â
One of King's best scoring opportunities of the game came just over four minutes into the third period when Barlocker dangled past a defender in the offensive zone and snapped a wrist shot on goal, forcing the Stevenson goaltender to make a save. The chance energized the Monarchs, who continued to push with additional attempts from Goner and Jerrett Tietz as they searched for a breakthrough.
Â
King's continued to apply pressure during a late power play, keeping the puck deep and firing shots through traffic, but the Mustangs' penalty kill held firm. With McPherson pulled for an extra attacker in the final minutes, the Monarchs generated multiple looks from Kumrow and Emma Heinrich, though Stevenson sealed the result with an empty-net goal at 19:26.
Â
The Monarch offense was led by Kumrow, who paced the team with four shots. She was followed by the trio of Stead, Barlocker and Heinrich, who all put three shots on goal. Maddie Vaughan finished as King's leader in faceoff wins with 15.
Â
Defensively, Goner led the way with three blocked shots and was trailed by Barlocker and Fleury-Wright with two apiece. McPherson delivered a standout performance in net, finishing with 49 saves.
Â
The Monarchs and Mustangs face off again tomorrow from the Revolution Ice Centre, with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
