King's Men's Lacrosse Opens at Home Saturday against Alfred University

KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE OPENS AT HOME AGAINST ALFRED UNIVERSITY

WILKES-BARRE - The King's College men's lacrosse team opens the 2009 season on Saturday at McCarthy Stadium at the Robert L. Betzler Athletic Complex with a non-conference tilt against Alfred University. Face-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.

Kings enters their home opener after a 4-9 overall record and a 0-7 conference mark last season. This year's team will be the most experienced team ever, losing only one senior player from last year's roster to graduation. Coming back to lead the way for the Monarchs on offense is junior Curtis Reinard who had 39 points on 18 goals and 21 assists while adding 27 groundballs. Classmates John Doran followed with 26 points on 12 goals and 14 assists with 24 groundballs. Rusty Booth added 21 points on 16  goals and five assists while senior Ryan Lachner contributed 18 points on 12 goals and six assists along with adding a team-high 38 ground balls.

Seniors Tim Cassi and Andrew Bartle will give King's much needed experience in the net. Cassi returns to the Monarchs after posting an 11.33 goals against average notching 117 saves, while Bartle registered 11.02 GAA with 64 saves.

The Alfred men's lacrosse team enters the 2009 campaign after finishing last season with a 7-7 overall record and a 2-6 Empire 8 mark. Sophomore Mark Zoyhofski topped the squad with 34 points on 22 goals and 12 assists. Classmate Justin Kieffer followed with 27 points on 22 goals and five assists. The Saxons look to incoming junior college transfer Justin Gill to contribute big time after winning the Tewaaraton Award in 2006.

In the face-off circle Alfred looks to the team of Jasyn Consiglio and Kevin Kostyk to help them get possession. Consigilio will look to take most of the face-offs in the 2009 season after compiling a .550 percentage last year, while Kostyk had .489 to go along with 21 groundballs. Sophomore goalkeeper Adam Schultz returns to the team after compiling a 7.43 GAA with 196 saves in 840 minutes.

The Monarchs will then return to action next Satyurday with a 1:00 p.m. home matchup with Immaculata University.
