KING'S MENS LACROSSE PICKS UP FIRST VICTORY OF 2009 SEASON OVER IMMACULATA
WILKES-BARRE – T. J. Lyon scored four goals to help lead the King's College men's lacrosse team to their first victory in the 2009 season posting a 11-8 decision over Immaculata Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.
King's took a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Lyon and Brendan Novotny before Immaculata Brendan Dinneen cut the lead with 0:55 left in the first quarter. The Monarchs were able to score three goals to answer right back thanks to Curtis Reinard, Lyon and John Doran to make the score 5-1 with 5:40 left in the first half. Dinneen was able to net three goals to help the Mighty Macs cut the lead 5-4 with 14:42 in the third quarter.
The Monarchs struck again in the third when Jason Merola, Daniel Carducci and Lyon netted a goal each to make the score 8-4 with 7:21 left. Tom Hartney was able to tally a goal for Immaculata to make the score 8-5 with 4:55 left. Doran scored two goals for King's to push the score to 10-5 to end the third.
Lyon would net his last goal of the game with 10:30 in the fourth period to make the lead 11-5. The Mighty Macs would strike again with two goals from Hartney and Dinneen. Those goals would not be enough to help secure the victory as the fourth quarter came to an end with the 11-8 Monarch victory.
King's outshot Immaculata 40-23 and held a 47-32 advantage in ground balls. Lyon led King's with four goals while Doran tallied three goals and one assist. Monarch goalie Tim Cassi made six saves with five ground balls on the day.
King's returns to action next Tuesday when the Monarchs host Susquehanna University at 4:00 pm at McCarthy Stadium.
