King's Men's Laxers Earn 8-6 Win Over Alvernia

KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE DOWNS ALVERNIA, 8-6
 
READING --  Rusty Booth scored three goals and Curtis Reinard dished out five assists to power the King's College men's lacrosse to a 8-6 victory over host Alvernia College Wednesday in Reading. With the win, King's improved to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in Middle Atlantic Conference play. Alvernia, meanwhile, fell to 2-7 and 0-5 in league games.
 
The Monarchs took a 2-1 first quarter lead on goals by Booth and Jason Merola. King's then scored four times in the second half on single goals by Booth and T.J. Lyon, combined with a pair of goals from Matt Sweazey to give the Monarchs a 6-1 lead at the half.

Alvernia, however, would score three straight goals in the third quarter to cut the margin to 6-4 heading into the final period. But the Monarchs would respond on Booth's third goal and a second from Lyon to up the margin to 8-4 with 9:39 left in the contest. The Crusaders would add two goals over the final 2:55 to bring the final score to 8-6.

King's outshot Alvernia 27-18 and held a 36-29 advantage in ground balls. Lyon and Sweazy added two goals each while Merola scored once for the Monarchs. King's goalie Tim Cassi made eight save sin goal to pick up the win.

The Monarchs return to action Saturday when King's plays host to Elizabethtown in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
