KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS ALVERNIA, 14-5
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's lacrosse team defeated Alvernia University by the score of 14-5 in conference action in McCarthy Stadium on Saturday.
The Monarchs exploded for a 4-0 lead before the Crusaders struck for their first goal at the 5:24 mark of the first period which made the score 4-1. Lenny Fox would open up the second period with a goal at 13:57 to give King's the brief 5-1 lead before Chris Bakes cut into the lead for Alvernia with a goal at the 12:52 mark.
King's would push the lead to 13-2 before Alvernia would score in the second half as Drew Giberson found the back of the net twice for the Crusaders.
Lenny Fox would have four goals and two assist while Rusty Booth also had four goals to power the Monarchs. Curtis Reinard was outstanding with three goals. Matt Giordano, Brendan Novotny, Zach Druhm all scored one goal each for King's. While Alvernia keeper Kevin Shupp made five saves in the loss.
The Monarchs held a 34-26 advantage in shots while also owning a 58-28 lead in ground balls.
King's goalie Kenny Cernuto made seven in the contest for King's. Peter Grenot, Matt O'Brien and Lenny Fox all had five ground balls each while Novotny and Rich Brower had four ground balls each.
The Monarchs will return to action on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. conference game against Misericordia University for the last home game of the 2010 season.
