FOX SCORES GAME WINNER AS KING'S DEFEATS MANHATTANVILLE
WILKES-BARRE – Lenny Fox scored the game winning goal 2:34 into the first overtime period as the King's College men's lacrosse team picked up its second overtime victory of the season with a 8-7 triumph over conference foe Manhattanville College.
With the win King's even its season (4-4) and conference (2-2) records while Manhattanville slipped to a 3-6 overall record and a 2-2 record in the MAC.
Fox opened up the scoring for the Monarchs at the 6:37 mark. The Monarchs added to their lead 0:56 later when Matt Giordano converted a Curtis Reinard pass into a 2-0 advantage. The Valiants would strike right back with two goals in the second quarter as Billy Motherway connected from Joey Hasbrouck at the 12:16 mark, the second goal came 5:20 later Matt Corey made good on a pass from Mike Strauss .
In the second period Joe Daly connected on a pass from Lance Schulman at the 12:20 mark to push the Valiant lead to 3-2. Mike Strauss made good on a feed by Matt Corey with 9:43 left to push the Manhattanville lead to 4-2. Curtis Reinard cut into the lead for the Monarchs connecting on a pass from Ryan Bullock with 1:06 remaining. Andrew McMillin gave the Valiants the lead again scoring unassisted for the last goal of the third quarter.
Joey Hasbrouck stretched the lead to 6-3 for Manhattanville at 7:17 mark. King's would chip away at that lead again as Rusty Booth scored at 6:36. Daly would score his second goal of the game for the Valiants giving them the 7-4 lead at 3:45 as he connected on an assist by Joey Hasbrouck. King's would cut at the lead again as Brendan Novotny made good on a feed by Ryan Bullock making the score 7-5 in favor of the Valiants with 2:06 left.
Booth, however, led the comeback with two late goals to help push the game into overtime for the second time this season. Booth's first goal came off an assist from Reinard with 0:49 left. The second goal came with 0:14 left in the fourth quarter as Booth connected following a pass from Novotny to tie the score for the second time in the game.
Booth was not finished with his strong play as he was able to set up the game-winning goal by Fox at the 2:34 mark to capture the thrilling victory.
Booth scored three goals and added the game-winning assist while Fox tallied two goals. Reinard recorded one goal and two assists, while Novotny added one goal and one assist. King's freshman goalie Kenny Cernuto made 10 saves for King's.
