KING'S MEN'S LAXERS DROP SEASON-FINALE TO DESALES
CENTER VALLEY -- Whit Bruemmer scored five goals to lead the host DeSales University men's lacrosse team to a 15-8 victory over KIng's College in the regular-season finals for both teams.
With the loss, King's ends its season with a 6-9 overall record while standing 4-7 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. DeSales, meanwhile, improved to 6-10 and 5-6 in league play.
King's took a 4-3 lead after the first quarter on the strength of two goals by Dan Carducci and scores by Rusty Booth and Jason Merola. Booth scored his secon goal of the game to counter a Bulldog score as the Monarchs entered the half-time break with a 5-4 lead.
But in a decisive third quarter, DeSales outscored King's 7-1, including four in a row to start the period as the Bulldogs forged ahead 11-6 entering the final quarter of play. DeSales scored two more to start the period to build a 13-6 lead but King's countered with two of its own after Reinard and Booth each scored as the Monarchs drew to within 13-8. But the Bulldogs used a goal by Tony Fabrizio at the 8:42 mark and another from Kevin Walker just 0:35 later to push the lead to 15-8. Neither team would score the rest of the way as DeSales walked away with the victory.
Booth led King's with four goals while Carducci finished with two goals and one assist. Reinard contributed one goal and one assist. Kenny Cernuto made 15 saves in goal for the Monarchs.
