KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE POSTS 6-3 WIN OVER UTICA
WILKES-BARRE -- Evan Seward scored two goals to propel the King's College men's lacrosse team to a 6-3 win over visiting Utica College Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's improves to 2-3 overall, while Utica falls to 1-2 on the young season.
The Monarchs grabbed the lead when Seward scored unassisted at the 9:50 mark of the first quarter. Utica answered, tying the game at 1-1 with a goal from Oliver Barney just five seconds later. The visiting Pioneers took their first lead of the game when Ben Winkler scored with 4:28 remaining in the quarter.
In the second stanza, King's used three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead at the break. Jason Merola scored at the 14:41 mark followed by Seward's second tally of the contest off a Ryan Bullock assist. Pat Bonnot capped the scoring rally, finding the back of the net with 5:08 left in the half.
King's added to their lead, scoring the only goal in the third quarter as T.J. Tagg struck net at 3:42 to put the Monarchs ahead 5-2. Shane Russo then added an insurance goal late in the quarter prior to a Pioneers' tally to seal the non-league win.
Utica held a slim 36-31 shot advantage while King's posted a 40-34 advantage in groundballs. Monarch keeper Kevin Conzola finished with 16 saves.
The Monarchs return to the field Wednesday when they host MAC foe FDU-Florham in their conference opener at McCarthy Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
