King's Women's Lax At Widener Saturday In MAC Opener

KING'S WOMEN'S LAXERS TRAVEL TO WIDENER IN MAC OPENER

 

CHESTER, PA – The King's College women's lacrosse team opens Middle Atlantic Conference play this weekend when the Lady Monarchs travel to Chester, Pa. Saturday to face Widener University. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.

King's (1-1) will look to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season, a 22-13 defeat at Marywood University on Wednesday night. Junior midfielder Chelsea Manes continues to lead the offensive attack posting 13 points on five goals and eight assists. Sophomore midfielder Krystina Villarreal follows with 10 points on a team-high eight goals and two helpers. Senior attacker Sarah O'Doherty adds seven points on seven goals. Sophomore attacker Andrea Alesso contributes six points on four goals and two assists, while rookie midfielder Amanda Harney is off to a quick start chipping in with five goals. Freshman goalie Megan Withrow has a 11.50 goals against average with 16 saves in two games in net for the Lady Monarchs.

 

Widener enters the match with a 2-3 record following an 18-8 loss against Swarthmore College on Tuesday. The Pride are led by a trio of top scorers in the conference. Senior midfielder Calina Walz posts a team-best 17 points on 15 goals and two assists. Fellow midfielder sophomore Julia Costello adds 16 points on eight goals and eight assists, while junior attacker Rachel Porter contributes 15 points on 10 goals and five assists. Junior goalie Linda Salcedo has a 14.16 GAA with 34 saves in five matches in net.

 

Following the match, King's continues its road stretch Wednesday with a MAC tilt at FDU-Florham at 4:00 p.m.
