MEN'S LACROSSE SUFFERS 11-4 LOSS AT DREW
MADISON, NJ – Sean McGowan scored three goals to lead host Drew University to an 11-4 win over visiting King's College Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
With the loss King's slips to 1-1 on the young season, while Drew improves to 1-0.
After the Rangers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, King's Lenny Fox scored unassisted to cut the lead in half with 6:21 left in the first quarter. Three more unanswered Drew goals gave the hosts a 5-1 advantage heading to the break.
The scoring continued for Drew as the Rangers scored the third quarter's first three goals to up the lead to 8-1 with 6:38 remaining in the quarter. The Monarchs used a Phil Danni tally to move to within six at 8-2, but three more Drew goals opened an eight point lead late in the fourth quarter. Mike O'Brien scored twice in the last five minutes of play, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Drew held a commanding 40-19 shot advantage, while recording 40 ground balls to King's 37. The Monarchs were 15-of-27 on clearing attempts, while the Rangers went 18-of-20 from their defensive end. King's keeper Kevin Conzola was bust throughout finishing with 18 saves. Drew goalie Charlie DeSocio posted five saves in the win.
King's will return to action next Wednesday when the Monarchs welcome Susquehanna University to McCarthy Stadium for a non-league matchup scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
