KING'S LACROSSE TEAMS IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND AGAINST ALVERNIA, VIEW LIVESTATS

 

WILKES-BARRE – Despite the cold temperatures and inclement weather of the past week, the King's College men's and women's lacrosse teams continue their Middle Atlantic Conference slates Saturday with home/away contests against Alvernia University. The Monarch men travel to Reading, Pa. to face the Crusaders, while the Lady Monarchs host their counterparts at McCarthy Stadium.

The Monarchs stand 2-4 overall and 0-1 in MAC play after dropping their conference opener 8-4 on Thursday against FDU-Florham. Freshman attacker Mike O'Brien leads King's offensively with 12 points on seven goals and five assists. Fellow rookie midfielder Shane Russo follows with six points on four goals and two helpers. Senior Evan Seward adds five goals, while freshman attacker Kieran McMahon contributes five points on three goals and two assists. King's goalie junior Kevin Conzola, the reigning MAC goalie/defender of the week, has a 9.50 goals against average with 73 saves and a .562 save percentage.

 

The Alvernia men's squad enters with a 2-3 overall record standing 0-1 in conference play following a 10-3 loss against Lebanon Valley on Wednesday. Sean Boyd leads the Crusaders attack with 11 points on seven goals and four assists. Rick Reid adds six goals, while Colin Gallagher and Brian Ray each post six points on four goals and two helpers each. Keeper Kevin Shupp boasts a 6.80 GAA with 57 saves and a 626 save percentage in six matches in net.

 

The Lady Monarchs (1-2, 0-1 MAC) will look for their first conference win Saturday after falling 18-5 at Widener University a week ago. Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Manes leads the offense with 16 points on seven goals and nine assists. Sophomore midfielder Krystina Villarreal follows with 11 points on a team-high nine goals and two helpers. Senior midfielder Sarah O'Doherty posts 10 points on nine goals and one assist. King's rookie goalie Megan Withrow has a 13.67 GAA with 28 saves and a .406 save percentage playing every minute in net.

 

The Alvernia women's team enters with a 6-0 overall mark and remain unbeaten in MAC play standing 3-0 following a 21-10 victory at Arcadia University on Thursday. Alyssa Verrillo tops the squad with 25 points on 21 goals and four assists. Felicia Sippel follows with 24 points on 20 goals and four helpers. Crusaders goalie Jennifer Czarnecki has a 8.53 GAA with 23 saves and a .460 save percentage in five matches in net.
