King's Men's Lax Late Rally Falls Short In 8-7 Defeat Against Lycoming

KING'S MEN'S LAX LATE RALLY FALLS SHORT IN 8-7 DEFEAT AGAINST LYCOMING
 
WILKES-BARRE -- Down 8-3 with 6:17 left in the fourth quarter, the King's College men's lacrosse team rallied to score four straight goals to pull to within one but could not find the game-tying tally in the final seconds as visiting Lycoming College held on for an 8-7 MAC win Wednesday afternoon an McCarthy Stadium.
 
With the loss King's drops to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in league play. Lycoming improves to 2-5 overall and evens its conference mark at 2-2.
 
After Lycoming took a 1-0 lead on a man-up situation, King's Lenny Fox tied the game when he circle from behind the net and beat Warrior keeper Alan Antinarelli with 11:10 on the clock. Lycoming's Stephen Romano gave the Warriors the lead back at the 8:13 mark with an unassisted goal. From there, the Monarchs answered with two straight goals to take a 3-2 lead with 1:25 remaining in the opening quarter. T.J. Tagg scored first followed by a Ryan Bullock tally. Lycoming struck one more time before the quarter buzzer tying the game at 3-3 after one.
 
Romano scored the lone tally for Lycoming in the second quarter at 14:29 as the Warriors took a 4-3 lead to the break.
 
Lycoming scored three unanswered goals in the third frame to extend their lead to 7-3. The Warriors added a goal mid-way through the fourth quarter before the Monarchs began their furious comeback. Mike O'Brien started the rally with an unassisted goal with 3:15 on the clock. Kieran McMahon joined the scoring tear with a goal one minute later to cut the deficit to 8-5. Fox then scored twice in the final minute to bring King's to within one at 8-7 to setup the dramatic finish.
 
In a pivital face-off with :27 left, Lycoming was able to control the draw and move the ball into their offensive end dashing the hopes of a complete King's comeback.
 
Fox was outstanding in his return to the lineup after an injury kept him sideline for some time finishing with three goals. O'Brien added an assist to go along with his one goal. King's goalie Kevin Conzola was solid in net posting 11 saves. Antinarelli made 13 stops for Lycoming. Romano led the way offensively for Lycoming with three goals and one assist.
 
Lycoming held a slim 34-33 advantage in shots, while the Monarchs grabbed 27 ground balls to the Warriors 26.
 
King's will take to the road Saturday with a MAC matchup at Eastern University. Gametime is set for 1:00 p.m. in St. David's, Pa.
