KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE FALLS 13-4 AGAINST DEFENDING MAC CHAMPION WIDENER
WILKES-BARRE -- Josh Fox scored five goals and seven different Pride players reached the scoring column as visiting Widener University posted a 13-4 win over King's College Thursday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
King's slips to 5-9 overall and 3-6 in MAC play following the defeat. Widener improves to 11-2 on the year and remains unbeaten at 9-0 in league play.
The visiting Pride took a 3-0 advantage after one quarter of play thanks to goals from Robert Clemens, Josh Fox, and Michael Bassani. King's responded with a Pat Bonnot score off an assist from Kieran McMahon to cut the deficit to 3-1 with 12:34 left until the half.
Widener then used several man-up scoring opportunities midway through the second quarter striking for four unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead into the break.
King's struck quickly to start the third quarter as Rob Lane found the back of the net unassisted to bring the Monarchs to within 7-2. Two more Pride goals extended the lead to 9-2 with 5:15 left in the third. Lenny Fox struck net late in the period to cut the deficit to 9-3.
Four more Pride goals in the fourth kept the Monarchs at bay as TJ Tagg scored with 5:24 left in the contest to cap King's scoring.
Fox led the way for King's finishing with one goal and one assist. Lane, Tagg, and Bonnot each contributed one tally. King's keeper Kevin Conzola made six saves in 30 minutes of play, while Brendan McCrudden spelled Conzola in the second half making six saves on 15 shots faced.
King's returns to action Wednesday when they travel to Purchase, N.Y. to face Manhattanville College at 4:00 p.m.
