King's Women's Lacrosse Falls 20-4 Against #13 Messiah In Season Finale

KING'S WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS 20-4 AGAINST #13 MESSIAH IN SEASON FINALE
 
WILKES-BARRE -- Senior Kara Geiman scored three goals and added six assists as visiting #13 Messiah College posted a 20-4 win over King's College Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium in both teams' season finales.
 
King's finishes the 2011 campaign with a 6-9 overall mark and 4-8 in league play. Messiah remains unbeaten at 12-0 in MAC games and stands 15-1 overall entering next week's playoffs.
 
Messiah opened the game with a goal just thirty seconds in to take a 1-0 lead. King's answered tying the game at 1-1 with a goal from Amanda Harney assisted by Krystina Villarreal. The visiting Falcons responded with five straight goals to take a 6-1 lead with 18:33 left in the half.
 
Chelsea Manes stopped the Messiah rally with an unassisted goal at the 15:48. Manes took a Falcons miscue and sprinted the length of the field beating the Messiah keeper to the left post. Another five goal spurt from Messiah pushed the lead to 11-2 with just over eleven minutes to play in the stanza.
 
Manes notched her second goal of the half at the 10:42 mark before four more Falcons goals sent the visitors to the break up 15-3.
 
The second half saw Messiah outscore the Lady Monarchs 5-1, as Sarah O'Doherty scored King's final tally in her last game at King's with 2:43 on the clock.
 
Manes led King's with two goals and one assist. O'Doherty and Harney netted the other goals for King's. Messiah saw 11 different players reach the scoring column in a balanced offensive attack throughout. Meghan Doolittle posted four goals and one helper, while four other Falcons struck net atleast twice.
 
Freshman goalie Megan Withrow finished with four saves facing 27 shots in the contest. Messiah keeper Taylor Phillips made five stops to record the win in net.
 
King's graduates just two players from this year's squad returning its top three scorers from this season in 2012.
