KING'S WOMEN USED EARLY ASSAULT TO DOMINATE NEUMANN 83-54

WLKES-BARRE --  The King's College women's basketball team put together its most impressive outing of the season as the Lady Monarchs built a 44-16 halftime lead en route to a dominating 83-54 victory over defending Colonial State Athletic Conference champion Neumann University Saturday afternoon in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, King's improved to 9-3 on the year while Neumann slipped to 4-8.  The win also enabled King's to snap a four-game losing streak at the hands of the Knights.

King's came out of the gates with full court defensive pressure to force a number of Neumann turnovers. The Lady Monarchs raced out to a 14-2 lead just 3:27 into the game after forcing five Neumann turnovers, using an inside bucket by Marissa Manning and five straight points by Katlin Michaels. After Lauren Waker hit a three-pointer for the Knights, the Lady Monarchs countered with a 9-1 surge  on the strength of a three-pointer by Celia Rader and a pair of driving lay-ups from Paige Carlin and Ashley Davies to extend the lead to 23-6 with 11:44 remaining in the opening stanza.

King's continued the attack and built its biggest lead of the half at 29 points after a pair of foul shots from Rader and a three-pointer by Cassie Erdmann to give the Lady Monarchs a 41012 advantage with 3:01 on the clock.  Neumann scored the final four points of the half as King's went into the locker room with a 41-16 half-time lead. Rader led King's with  15 points as the break while the Lady Monarchs forced Neumann into 16 turnovers over the first 20 minutes of play.

The Lady Monarchs continued to dominate play in the second half  and built a 31-point lead with 14:23 remaining as buckets by Samantha Simcox and Rader, along a Carlin inside bucket pushed the score to 56-25. Neumann used a 14-3 run to close the gap to 59-39 with 10:35 to play, but King's reassumed command and surged back to a 75-42 lead with 4:01 left in the contest after a traditional three-point play from Lindsay Atchison, a pair of foul shots by Rader, and an inside bucket by Molly Dahl.

Rader led four players in double figures with 19 points and four rebounds while Manning followed with 12 points and two blocks. Carlin tallied 10 points, six rebounds and three assists while Michaels also added 10 points with two assists. Simcox contributed seven points, seven rebounds, and four steals while Atchison posted seven points and three boards. Brittany Muscatell chipped in with eight assists and eight rebounds.

Neumann, which finished with 25 turnovers, was paced by Eric Marvel and Bethany Humenik with 10 points each while Walker added nine points.

King's resumes Freedom Conference action on Wednesday when the Lady Monarchs travel to Center Valley to face defending conference champion DeSales in a 6:00 p.m. matchup.
