LADY MONARCH CAGERS TO MAKE HOME DEBUT MONDAY NIGHT VERSUS GWYNEDD-MERCY

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College women's basketball team will make its 2012-13 home debut Monday when the Lady Monarchs play host to Gwynedd-Mercy College Monday at 6:00 p.m. It will mark the Lady Monarchs first game in the recently renovated Scandlon Gymnasium.

King's, which advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament “Sweet 16” a year ago. Enters the contest with a 2-1 record after dropping a 64-59 verdict to traditional regional power University of Scranton on Tuesday night.  The Lady Monarchs had previously won the Scotty Wood Invitational Tournament at Muhlenberg College.

The Griffins enter the contest with a 1-1 record after falling 93-74 to New Jersey Athletic Conference contender Montclair State (3-0) in the finals of the Gwynedd-Mercy Tip-Off Tournament.

Entering the matchup with Gwynedd-Mercy, the Lady Monarchs have been led by the play of its senior backcourt of Celia Katlin Michaels.  Rader tops the squad with 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 13 three-pointers. Michaels has been equally important with 15.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 2.0 steals. Sophomore forward Marissa Manning adds 13.0 points, and 4.0 rebounds with seven blocked shots while senior forward Lindsay Atchison contributes 10.0 points and 7.3 boards.

Senior forward Molly Dahl has tallied 5.7 points and 2.0 rebounds while sophomore guard Ashley Davies chips in with 5.0 points and 8.3 boards.  The Lady Monarchs have averaged 70.3 points per-game while allowing 66.0 each contest.

Gwynedd-Mercy, a perennial power in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, has been a thorn in the side of King's in recent seasons.  The Griffins own the longest current winning streak against King's by any opponent with five straight victories over the Lady Monarchs, including a 59-49 triumph last season in Gwynedd Valley. King's last win over the Griffins was a 66-51 triumph during the 2006-07 campaign.

Gwynedd has been paced thus far by Shea Wassel who averages 18.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per-game. Jordan Dominic follows with 11.5 points and 3.5 points while Lauren Smith and Kristen Fuery both contribute 10.0 points with six three-pointers.   The Griffins are averaging 85.0 points while allowing 73.0 points each contest.

Following the against Gwynedd-Mercy, the Lady Monarchs will open their 2012-13 Freedom Conference schedule at home on Wednesday with an 6:00 p.m. matchup against Delaware Valley College in Scandlon Gym.
