Lady Monarchs Host Manhattanville on Senior Day

Wilkes-Barre, PA— The King's College women's basketball team finishes up their regular season home slate on Saturday afternoon when they host Manhattanville at 1:00 p.m.

The Lady Monarchs clinched the Freedom Conference regular season championship with a 79-69 victory over Delaware Valley on Wednesday night. They now stand at 19-3 overall and a perfect 11-0 in the conference. Manhattanville played to an 67-54 win against DeSales on Thursday to move to 7-14 overall and 2-9 in the Freedom.

The two teams played a thriller the last time they met with King's coming out on top 51-49. Katlin Michaels tied the game with 23 seconds and then won the game with a jumper at the buzzer to finish the game with a team-high 16 points. Samantha Simcox chipped in 12 points. Taylor Wilson paced the Valiant offense with 13 points and Kelli Hyjek added 11 points.

King's has hung its hat on defense this season with the Freedom Conference's second best scoring defense allowing just 56.7 points per game. The Lady Monarchs are atop the league in field goal percentage defense holding opponents to .352 shooting from the field. The Valiants rank eighth in the Freedom in scoring at 62.7 points per game and seventh in the conference in scoring defense allowing 66.8 points per contest.

Simcox is leading the Lady Monarchs in scoring in her senior season with 11.6 points and also grabbing a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game. Fellow senior Paige Carlin is closing posted 20 points against Delaware Valley to move within 14 points of being the 18th player in King's history to reach the 1,000 point plateau. Carlin has averaged 11.5 points and 4.1 boards this season.

Junior guard Katlin Michaels has been the trigger for the King's offense posting 9.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and her 4.9 assists per game ranks third in the Freedom Conference. Celia Rader has provided a lift off the bench for the Lady Monarchs with 37 3-pointers for a 9.2 points per game average in her junior season.

Marissa Manning has chipped in 7.5 points and blocked the third most shots in the conference, 28, in a strong freshman campaign. Junior combo player Lindsay Atchison has added 6.2 points and 3.6 boards per contest.

Manhattanville's offense has been led by Wilson who is averaging 13.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest. Courtney Turner has posted 12.1 points, 5.7 boards and 2.4 assists per game. Hyjek has tallied 9.3 points and 5.4 rebounds. Jennifer Mcsharar has added 7.9 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per outing.

The Lady Monarchs will honor five seniors on Saturday. They are Nina Magan, Abby Malloy, Brittany Muscatell, Simcox and Carlin.
