King's Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short in Season Opener Against Neumann
Aston, PA—The King's College men's lacrosse team allowed four fourth quarter goals and dropped its season opener to Neumann 9-5 Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied 5-5 as the fourth period began. The Knights came out quick in the and scored just 14 seconds into the period to take the lead. Neumann struck again at 7:01 to increase the lead to 7-5. The Knights would tack on two more insurance tallies to set the final.
At the half the teams were tied at 2, but King's came out strong in the second half when
Lenny Fox tallied his first goal of the year just 20 seconds into the third to give King's a 3-2 lead. Fox struck again at 13:04 to build the lead to 4-2.
Kieran McMahon opened the scoring giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead on a pass from
Jason Merola. A.J Bungert gave King's a 2-0 lead at 11:29 just as a two-minute man advantage ran out.
Fox tallied two goals and an assist while
Kevin Sweeney, McMahon, and Bungert each tallied a goal. Neumann was paced by Mark Consolo with three goals and Ryan O'Kane with a pair of goals.
Brenden McCrudden made six saves and took the loss in net while Andrew Meubauer tallied 15 saves and picked up the win.
The Monarchs outshot the Knights 39-23 but were 0-7 with the extra man while Neumann was 2-3 a man-up.
King's makes its home debut on Wednesday when it hosts Drew at 4:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
