King's Men's Lacrosse Tops Bethany 11-1
Wilkes-Barre, PA-- The King's College men's lacrosse team posted its highest goal total of the season and continued to play stifling defense as they defeated visiting Bethany College 11-1 Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
Jake Cochran started the scoring for the Monarchs netting the first goal of the game unassisted at the 11:35 mark in the first quarter. The Monarchs would tack on a man-up goal at 9:48 from
Kieran McMahon and another goal just 12 seconds later by
Tim Fulton to build a 3-0 lead.
King's tallied three more goals in the first quarter including a pair of unassisted tallies by
Lenny Fox at 8:58 and 4:13.
Mike O'Brien scored with 44 seconds to play in the first quarter to give the Monarchs a 6-0 lead.
The lone goal for the Bison came early in the second quarter when Christian Simon buried a Vince Frammartino pass with 11:14 to play in the second. The Monarchs put up four unanswered goals to end the half paced by a two goals from freshman
Kevin Sweeney.
Edward Dowse finished the scoring with 10:06 on the clock in the third. The teams played a scoreless fourth quarter.
Fox led the Monarchs offensive attack putting three balls in the net. Sweeney and O'Brien each tallied two gaols. McMahon and Cochran each picked up a goal and an assist.
King's out shot the Bison 38-14 and won 15-of-16 faceoffs. The Monarchs also got their extra-man offense started scoring twice a man-up.
The Monarchs improved to 2-4 overall and will return to action on the road when they make the trip to Utica next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
