King's Women's Basketball Falls to Neumann
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – Erica Marvel went off for 32 points helping Neumann down host King's College 73-63 in the Lady Monarchs home opener Thursday night at Scandlon Gymnasium.
With 10:27 to play in the game King's held a 52-44 lead after Shea Grim hit a 3-pointer. The Knights roared back scoring the next nine points behind five points from Marvel and layups by Sarah Roberts and Colleen Hinde to go up 53-52. After a pair of Jessica Schlesman free throws Grim hit a triple to even the score at 55.
Marvel hit 3-pointers on back to back possessions sparking 10-1 run that pushed the lead to 65-56 with 1:15 to play. Neumann converted on 8-of-8 shots from the charity stripe to close out the game.
The Lady Monarchs grabbed the lead out of the box scoring the first 11 points. The Knights finally got on the board at the 11:17 mark on a Marvel layup. The teams traded baskets with Neumann getting as close as seven, 18-11, with 7:25 remaining in the first half.
King's pushed the lead to 29-19 with 1:20 mark in the first half, but Neumann bounced back with a five points from Marvel in front of a buzzer beating layup by Fabian to give the Lady Monarchs a 31-24 halftime lead.
Out of the break the Knights used a 13-8 spurt to cut the lead 39-37 on a Marvel layup at the 14:59 mark. King's answered with a 8-3 run of their own to extend the lead back to 47-40.
King's was led by a double-double from Fabian with 17 points and 15 rebounds as well as blocking five shots.
Marissa Manning chipped in 12 points and six boards while
Kasey Seitz added 10 points, six assists and five boards.
In addition to Marvel three other Knights reached double figure scoring. Schlesman recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds and 12 helpers while also grabbing six steals. Hinde tallied 12 points and nine boards and Lauren Walker notched 11 points.
The Lady Monarchs are back in action on Saturday when they host University of Scranton at 1:00 p.m. in a Play Gray game. There will be a table at the game where fans can make a donation to Play Gray as well as get free candy.
