King's Men's Lacrosse Opens Season with 9-6 Win Over Neumann
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The King's College men's lacrosse team got four points from junior 
Mike O'Brien to defeat visiting Neumann 9-6 at McCarthy Stadium in the Monarchs season opener.
Neumann jumped out early with a goal from Chris Scott with 6:20 to play in the first quarter. The Knights extended the lead with at 3:54 with an unassisted tally from Patrick Rose.
Pat Bonnot sparked the King's offense with the first of seven consecutive King's goals. The Monarchs struck four times in the second quarter with O'Brien picking up a pair of unassisted tallies at 9:02 and 5:11 while 
Max Malloy score his first career goal at 2:18. 
Kieran McMahon put King's up 5-2 at the break when he deposited a 
Lenny Fox pass in the net with 1:25 to play in the first half.
King's carried the momentum into the second half scoring the first two goals of the second half as 
Kevin Sweeney and McMahon each picked up a tally with O'Brien assisting on both goals to push the King's lead to 7-2.
The Knights battled back on a man up goal from Kevin Fonio assisted by Scott with just 38 seconds to play in the third quarter. Neumann struck again at even strength just 20 seconds into the fourth quarter on a Ryan O'Kane goal. Scott picked up his third point of the day with a goal at 11:38 to play in the game to slash the lead to 7-5.
Lenny Fox answered for the Monarchs with a goal just seven seconds later to make the lead 8-5. A.J. Bungert picked up a goal at the 5:23 mark to put King's up 9-5. Rose rounded out the scoring for Neumann with an even strength tally with 1:12 to play to set the final.
In addition to O'Brien two other Monarchs had multiple point days with McMahon and Fox each picking up two points.
Scott paced the Knights with three points while Rose finished with two points on a pair of goals.
Brenden McCrudden picked up the win between the pipes for King's making six saves while allowing five goals. Andrew Neubauer took the loss making 13 saves for the Knights.
The Monarchs are back in action next Saturday when they host Susquehanna at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
