King's Men's Lacrosse Knocks Off Lycoming 8-4
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The King's College men's lacrosse team held Lycoming to a season-low four goals on their way to an 8-4 victory Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win King's improved to 4-1 overall while Lycoming slipped to 1-5.
The Monarchs were first on the board getting an unassisted tally from
Kieran McMahon at 7:36 to play in the first quarter.
Pat Bonnot made it 2-0 King's with an unassisted tally just 10 seconds later.
Lenny Fox added a goal with 3:20 remaining in the first to put the Monarchs up 3-0.
A.J. Bungert extended the King's lead to 4-0 with the only goal of the second quarter at the 4:35 mark depositing a
Pat Bonnot pass to the back of the cage.
King's picked up right where they left off in the second half with
Liam Kelly notching a goal at 13:23 in the third. Lycoming got on the scoreboard with a man-up goal from Matt Mcaffer assisted by Sean Reilly with 12:08 to play in the third quarter. McCaffer struck again a minute later to cut the lead to 5-2 with an unassisted tally.
Fox pushed the lead back to 6-2 with an unassisted marker of his own at 8:24 to play in the third. McMahon added his second goal of the game on a nifty pass from
Mike O'Brien early in the fourth quarter to put King's up 7-2.
The Warriors rallied with goals from Tom Lurie and McCaffer at 7:02 and 4:30 respectively to get as close as 7-4, but
Ryan Francik iced the game with a goal at the 39 second mark to set the final.
Fox and McMahon each tallied two points on two goals. Bonnot notched a goal and an assist while
Mike O'Brien picked up a pair of helpers.
McCaffer led the way with three tallies for the Warriors. Mike Cooper dished out a pair of assists.
Brendan McCrudden scored the win in net for King's stopping 11 shots and allowing three goals. Alex Wylly took the loss for Lycoming making 12 stops.
The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Bethany, WV for a showdown with the Bisons. The game is slated for 1:00 p.m.
