FOUR KING'S TEAMS SET FOR FREEDOM CONFERENCE PLAYOFFS
WILKES-BARRE -- Four members of the King's College spring sports teams have qualified for Freedom Conference post-season tournaments this week.
The post-season opens Tuesday when the second-seeded men's tennis team hosts third-seeded FDU-Florham at 3:30 PM Kirby Park. The teams played earlier in the season with the Monarchs posting a 6-3 victory. Should King's win they would be expected to play top-seeded, defending champion Wilkes on Saturday at a time to be announced.
On Wednesday, the second-seeded women's tennis team will host third-seeded Misericordia University at 3:30 PM at Kirby Park. The teams met earlier in the season with the Lady Monarchs posting a 5-4 victory. Should the Lady Monarchs emerge victorious, they would likely play top-seeded, defending champion Wilkes on Saturday at a time to be announced.
The men's lacrosse team will take to the road to play top-seeded Eastern University at 3:30 PM in St. Davids. The teams played earlier this season with Eastern registering a 15-6 home victory. It will mark the second straight year King's men's lacrosse has qualified for the post-season.
The King's softball team will open the two-day double-elimination Freedom Conference Tournament at Wilkes with a 1:00 PM matchup with third-seeded Manhattanville College on Friday. The tournament will begin at 11:00 AM with top-seeded DeSales playing fourth-seeded FDU-Florham. The winner of the first two games will then play at 3:00 PM. King's and Manhattanville played two weeks ago with the Lady Monarchs winning both games, though the first game was 4-3.
The softball tournament will continue Saturday with games slated for 9 AM and 11 AM, with the championship games set for 1 PM and with a possible 3 PM game. If one team is 2-0 and loses in the 1 PM championship game, a second championship game will played. Both team would thus have one loss apiece, hence the term "double-elimination" where in order to be eliminated you have to lose twice.
