King's Men's Lacrosse Opens Freedom Conference Play with Win Over Arcadia
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's College men's lacrosse team moved to 7-1 on the year notching a 9-4 win over Arcadia in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams Saturday at McCarthy Stadium.
Arcadia jumped out early with a goal at the 12:33 mark from Chris Baines. The lead was extended to 2-0 57 seconds later on an unassisted tally from Richard Derival. King's pulled even with unassisted goals from
Pat Bonnot and
Liam Kelly. The teams traded goals in the final minute to set the score at 3-3 after the first quarter.
Kevin Sweeney deposited a
Lenny Fox pass to the back of the net with 6:52 to play in the second to give the Monarchs their first lead of the day and set the halftime score.
King's built the lead in the third quarter getting goals from
Ryan Francik and
Kieran McMahon pushing the score to 6-3. The Knights cut the lead to 6-4 with 1:34 to play in the third on a goal from Chris Jacovino assisted by Casey Joffe, but King's tallied three fourth quarter goals to ice the game.
The Monarchs out shot Arcadia 50-16 while also winning 11-of-17 face-offs. King's also forced 28 turnovers and scooped up 43 ground balls.
Bonnot paced the Monarch offense with three points on a pair of goals and one assist. Sweeney added a pair of goals while
Lenny Fox chipped in a goal and an assist.
Chris Jacovino led the way for the Knights scoring a pair of goals. Baines and Derival each picked up a point with a goal each.
Brendan McCrudden made six saves and allowed four goals picking up the win for King's in the cage. Cory Sonderschafer took the loss while making 17 saves.
The Monarchs are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Misericordia for a Freedom Conference matchup slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
