King's Men's Lacrosse Opens Season on Sunday a Neumann
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.—The King's College men's lacrosse team will have to wait an extra day, but their season opens on Sunday when they Monarchs travel to Neumann University for a 4:00 p.m. faceoff.
After finishing last season 10-4 overall and 4-2 in Freedom Conference the Monarchs fell to Eastern in the Freedom Conference semifinals.
King's brings back four of its five leading scorers from a year ago including leading scorer
Mike O'Brien who tallied 43 points on 26 goals and 17 assists.
Kieran McMahon adding 19 goals and three assists for 22 points.
Junior
Kevin Sweeney tallied 16 points on 10 goals and six assists.
Pat Bonnot notched 13 goals and two helpers for 15 points.
Billy McCullough tallied 10 points on five goals and five assists while winning .558 of his faceoffs.
The Monarchs defense led the Freedom Conference giving up just 6.86 goals per game. Senior
Edward Dowse was named an Inside Lacrosse All-American honorable mention leads a strong returning group. Also back on the defensive end are long stick midfielders
Jamie Downs and
Christopher Theodorou.
King's also brings back senior goalkeeper
Brendan McCrudden who started all 14 games in net for the Monarchs. McCrudden posted 135 saves for a .595 save percentage and a 6.81 goals against average.
The Monarchs open the season with three road games at Neumann, Marywood and Susquehanna before taking home Saint Vincent College on March 5 at McCarthy Stadium.
