KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE RALLIES IN 4TH QUARTER FOR 6-5 SEASON-OPENING WIN OVER NEUMANN
ASTON -- The King's College men's lacrosse team rallied from a 5-4 deficit with two fourth-quarter goals, the last coming off the stick of Mike O'Brien with 2:47 remaining as the Monarchs opened the 2014 season with a 6-5 victory over host Neumann University Saturday in Aston.
Down a goal to start the final quarter, King's struck quickly when A.J. Bungert scored just 2:19 into the period to knot the score at 5-5.  The Monarchs peppered the Neumann goal, holding a 10-3 advantage in shots but it was O'Brien who scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with under three minutes to play.
The Monarchs defense held true to form and did not allow the Knights a shot the rest of the way to preserve the victory.

King's fell behind 2-0 after nine minutes of play but Kevin Sweeney got the Monarchs on the board at the 5:10 mark off an assist from O'Brien.  Neumann added a goal with 8:04 left in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter Neumann srtcuk again just 1:03 into the period to build a 4-1 lead. King's answered with a man-up goal when Liam Kelly converted a pass from Sweeney, followed by a pair of unassisted goals from Kieran McMahon  within a 1:29 span to tie the score at 4-4.

Neumann, however. scored with just 0:12 on the clock to enter the fourth quarter with a 4-3 advantage, setting up the Monarchs late heroics.

King's outshot Neumann 32-30 and owned a 39-31 advantage in ground balls. O'Brien and Sweeney finished with one goal and one assist each while O'Brien added six ground balls. Billy McCullough won 9-of-13 face-offs while posting seven ground balls Brendan McCrudden started the game and allowed two goals while making six saves. Derek
 Bowman came into the game in relief and yielded three goals while stopping 11 shots.

Patrick Rose and Chris Scott both had one goal and an assist for Neumann while Alex Becker posted 20 saves.
The Monarchs return to the field Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. game at Marywood University
